The family is incredibly old, and despite never holding much liquid wealth, they hold much land and are quite comfortable. Their manor in Cloverview is one of the newer ones, due to a rather unfortunate and shockingly sudden case of woodworm twelve years ago.
House Winterstar has a history of bad luck. Its heirs have a unique bequeath. At some point early on, a Lady of Winterstar charmed an elven lord, and they bore a son. However, the half-elven son hated his father, and slew him in his sleep. Ever since, the family has suffered poor luck. "The luck of a Winterstar" is famous in New Baz, almost as famous as their self-deprecating humor about it. There is a popular joke format centered around it, in which some hideous misfortune befalls a Winterstar. Invariably, the punchline is that they think themselves absurdly lucky that it wasn't far worse.
Part of the Winterstar curse is that whenever one stands under the Demon Moon, the elder blood awakens, and remembers the rage of its otherworldly ancestor. At such times, their bodies and minds undergo a 'warp spasm'. They become deadly beasts of inside-out muscle and enter a killing frenzy which lasts until no human is left standing.
Ill Fated: Suffer -1d to any given roll, up to once per session, per the GM's discretion (with a bonus XP if it results in a good "Luck of a Winterstar" joke).
Warp Spasm: Every 19 days The Demon Moon rises. At any time during that day or night, you can choose to enter a monstrous state of murderous frenzy, gaining +ED Brawl, +4 Body (for details, see Wild Talents p. 41), and +1S/location/round of health regeneration. You must continue to fight (anyone) or suffer a blackout for (8 - 1d5) hours. Otherwise, the effect ends at sunrise with no resulting blackout. Clothes and armor are often soiled, but undamaged.
Elven Ancestor: Winterstar scions have an affinity for the otherworld, and gain +1HD to their Eerie skill.
