The Erethiel Theocracy

Theocracy

The History of Erethiel: Erethiel was founded two hundred years after the fall of the Hobgoblin empire. Before its founding, the continent of Gorathell was made up of many small kingdoms that cropped up after the fall of the Empire.

The largest was the Elven Queendom of Tal; they ruled over a large part of the East continent but were not interested in expanding their territories. The other smaller kingdoms constantly fought against one another, trying to expand their land.

One of these was a small kingdom in the southwest of the continent. An Orc warrior by the name of Erethiel Irontooth had a vision. In that vision, he stood in front of a massive mausoleum; from that structure, the voice of the Gods spoke to the warrior, urging him to unite the continent, and in doing so, the gods would once again bless Barator and the Orc people. Irontooth would be the first to have the title of King priest. He would not see the birth of the Theocracy. His Grandson, Erethiel the Second, would be the one to create the great Erehtilen Imperial Theocracy. He would unite all the lands in the North, the West, and the Northeast; only two lands stood against the continent's unification: the Elven Queendom of Tal and the deep southern land of the Sultans. Even though Erethiel had a larger army, the Elven Queendom were masters of the arcane and had spent time fortifying their lands from the Theocracy. The Theocracy only managed to push the Elves to the eastern side of the Spine of Gorathell. This act took close to a hundred years. During this time, a powerful figure had arrived in the North. This individual had started preaching the dangers of the Divine, of how the Divine had almost brought the world to destruction. It spoke of a forgotten and terrible war. The followers of the Prophet of the Sigil would eventually raise an army that would go on to reclaim the North.

The Theocracy, at first, had ignored the prophet as some minor nuisance. Instead, focusing all their effort on reclaiming the East and breaking the Elven Queendom. This single-mindedness,  combined with the betrayal of the king's priest by his human advisor, would cause the fall of the Erethiel Empire and the birth of the Empire of the Sigil. The Empire of Sigil belief system was in direct opposition to the Theocracy. In the end, the Theocracy had to stop their attack on the Tal Queendom due to a civil war breaking out. As the new King, the priest claimed the Holy throne. The human would name himself Erethiel the Fourth. He would convince the people of the Theocracy that the Empire of the sigil had assassinated their beloved King priest and his family using dark arcane arts. The war that was born from this lie. It lasted off and on for the next 130 years, until an elven assassin killed the Ardor family who had ruled for those 130 years. A half-orc by the name of Arhtul, claimed that he was of both bloodlines. After some internal strife and a minor civil war, Arthul took the holy throne and claimed the title of King priest. Arthul had an intense hate for the elves and their kind. He saw them as a threat to the Theocracy and for the murder of the holy family. Fifty years ago, an unsteady peace accord was signed between the Empire and the Theocracy. The Theocracy have been making minor attacks on the border lands of the Queendom of Tal, since the signing of the treaty, never a full attack, but constantly probing for weakness. While the elves have raid many Erethielien villages and towns. While denying that they have done any such things.

For very day that passes the peace treaty weakens and the threat of a new war looms on the horizon.
