"And so we, the collective of races once nearly driven to the precipice of extinction, through uniting our efforts against the Evil occupation of our world, banish the darkness back to the shadows. We have shown what is possible when the forces of Good direct their full strength towards a single cause.
No longer will we live in the far corners of Terrania. No longer will we cower, no longer will we hide, no longer will we fear.
We have won. The Age of Darkness has ended.
In its place, we hereby usher in the Age of Light."
-Excerpt from The Lightbringer's Decree
Preceded by: The Age of Darkness
Proceeded by: The Age of Arcana
Following the defeat of the fiendish powers at the the twilight hours of the Age of Darkness, the races of Terrania emerged from hiding and set about growing their civilizations.
In the months and years following, a council of the races set about defining aspects of society, including a central form of currency and a widely-accepted calendar. The calendar used during the Age of Light is based on the ancient Draconic calendar. It is now considered a culture-neutral calendar, and has been widely adopted by the major races to ease diplomacy and trade.
Societies grew to protect their citizens from Evil, should it ever appear again. Technology evolved, and with it cities grew. Although magic was not unknown at this time, there was great suspicion following the Age of Darkness. However, the Elves and Gnomes were the first to reincorporate magic, starting with the Druids. The Dwarves were the next to adapt magic, expanding to divine sources, and the other races soon followed suit.
Sorcerers were uncommon throughout this age; the Lizardfolk were the first to study magic in a structured way, and soon after wizards could be found throughout Terrania. Thus, arcane magic has only existed as an institution since AL 3882 with the founding of the Wizard College of Selu Va'Taar.
A sudden influx in arcane power in AL 3996 has prompted some to use a new calendar: that of the Age of Arcana.
