Adventurers

Reckoning that the longer they snuck around the greater the chance of their being discovered, the party opted to return to the monastery with the bloodthirstier goal of a lightning strike. After another night's stakeout but failing to see any further comings or goings, they climbed over the wall into the courtyard garden and made for the previously-discovered secret door. Hearing voices behind one of the corridor doors, they made a quick calculation and reckoned that it would led to a room with no other ways out - thus, they could trap a decent number of occupants.

They kicked down the door and swarmed in. The occupants, over a dozen hairy ones of various sizes and levels of kemptness, were caught off guard but quickly rallied to form two ranks. That aided them little as the adventurers cut hacked their way into the room, and their formation crumbled as they fled towards a door in the far corner. Rarder outpaced the slower ones and, seeing the lead creatures start to descend a staircase, dashed to the end of the room and flung himself down in front of them. He twisted his ankle upon landing but try as they might, the hairy ones could not get past the doughty fighter.

While he blocked the way down, his comrades cut down the remaining hairy ones upstairs, Dulo sending most of them into a slumber while the others did the dirty work of slicing throats. They left one tied up for interrogation later.

Unfortunately the sounds of battle seemed to have carried, and more of the creatures rounded a corner and fell upon Rarder. Cutting his way clear, he slowly backed away up the stairs while the others hurled lit oil flasks down below, killing several of the reinforcements and forcing the other ones back.

Rather than wait for the reinforcements to come back with more reinforcements, the party barricaded the door to the stairway, then set the barricade on fire for good measure, before hightailing it out of their and back home. As they withdrew, the entire monastery went up in flames.
