Adventurers

Trapped behind two magically locked doors, the party tried in vain to bash their way out or find a secret exit. All they could do was sit and wait, pondering the ominous growling and scratching coming from the other side of the southern door. Fortunately it was the eastern door which opened first, and they reunited with a relieved Koko. The followers of Madarua departed, returning – as best the party could make out – to their outpost.

The adventurers decided to find their own way around. After cutting apart an overly large lizard and disturbing some venomous snakes, they found in a bare room decorated with wall carvings giving the impression of a villa by the beach. Warily they passed through but, as the last one stepped into the room, both exits slammed shut and water started pouring into the room. They split up to try and force either door open and Rarder and Konrad, taller and thus less immediately impeded by the rising water levels, were fortunately able to smash down their door of choice. The water poured out into the corridor and the party squelched on.

They found a route down behind a desecrated altar, the name of their target – ‘Malachie’ – daubed across it in some icky substance, and found themselves in a burial chamber, the walls bearing images of a king and queen being variously entertained and bored by a dwarven jester. Whilst the party examined these, Alfredward warily approached a sarcophagus and edged its lid off. When he was met with a coil-sprung wooden face bounding out at him, the adventurers decided it was not worth risking any of the other containers in the room, and immediately departed.

After Konrad’s dedication to his Lawful deity made short work of some skeletons, and the rest of the company dispatched some hairless ape-like beasts, they methodically started working their way around this new dungeon level, skirting around a nest of giant rats (appeased by tossing the corpse of one of the apes in and shutting the door) and coming upon a room with a brazier-surrounded sarcophagus. Wary of the container itself, the party explored around the room and unearthed a scroll case. Blithely unconcerned with the possibility of a curse, Konrad the Wise popped it open and unfurled the scroll to reveal a map with an enticing X marked upon it…
