Once a hunter in the northern reaches of Stranglethorn, the Gurubashi worship of the blood god Hakkar drove Gan — alongside a slew of other trolls like him — westward across the sea to Kalimdor. They had been told of the Horde's exodus to new lands and the founding of Durotar, and with it had great hopes that this could be their future as well.
For a while after their arrival at these far shores, Gan spent his time travelling the barren reaches of central Kalimdor. It was during this time that he found himself face to face with the towering figure Rexxar; a seasoned Mok'Nathal beastmaster who had been instrumental in aiding the Horde against the forces of Theramore.
Though Rexxar was wary not to confide too much about where had been and where he was headed, never one to mince many words, he took on the young Gan to be his hunt apprentice for a while. This would turn out to be just long enough for the Mok'Nathal to see himself happy with the troll's hunting prowess, before he parted ways.
Since then, Gan has been trying to go by whichever threads he can within the Horde to find out where his old teacher is now.
