Stonetalon is a mountainous region to the north-west of The Barrens, separating the verdant forest of Ashenvale from the arid reaches of Desolace. The region is the ancestral home of harpies, a regular nesting ground for wyverns and some smaller drakes, and scattered across it are a number of tauren villages and kaldorei groves. 

Though there are many mountains making up the region as a whole, the lone tallest rise among them is known as the Stonetalon Peak. It is considered sacred grounds for those who dwell in the region and features a small, densely forested valley. It is said that this valley housed a great elven temple in the days of Queen Azshara, though it is now home to a druidic community known as the Mirkfallon Keepers and the barrow den they reside in. 

Settlements in the Stonetalon Mountains

• Sun Rock Retreat. Situated half-way through Stonetalon and down in a valley, Sun Rock Retreat is a long-standing tauren settlement that has become the Horde's heart and home in the region. The geography of the valley makes it easy to defend, with two easy passages through and surroundings that are dangerous to traverse.
