The Monastery of Saint Brutus is a small community of around a dozen monks associated with the Abbey of St Ursula. The monastery is located about a mile from the Abbey grounds on the other side of the River Teth.
Saint Brutus himself is a lesser known, obscure saint of the Mithran Faith, most notable as the patron saint of brewers and distillers.
The monastery is a simple affair, in keeping with the saints teaching to eschew worldly possessions and comforts, in favor of focusing on a life of piety, service and devotion to their craft.
The monks live simply, in small thatched huts made solely of local material, in a design inspired by the villages of the First People. The posses virtually no earthly possessions other then those directly required for basic life. The work hard, both in brewing their alcohol but also in assisting the nuns of the Abbey in the vineyard and fields.
In addition to the large stone statue of the Saint, there are only two real buildings in the monastery, a small stone chapel to Mithra and St Brutus and The Distillery.
Economically the monks support themselves via the production of port, sherry and brandy, all made with the excellent grapes grown by the nearby Abbey. These products are of excellent quality and reputations, and can be sold for a hefty price both in local markets and further abroad. Their 30 year reserve brandy especially (Called Old Brutus) is heavily in demand across the The Thousand Isles and can be found as far away as Valoria.
The proceeds from these sales are mostly donated to other orders of Mithras which directly minister to the poor and downtrodden across the islands, especially the Abbey of St. Claire in Skull River Bay.
