Note from Ozraeline

When you return to the destroyed village of Potsio, your heart sinks as the Lady Jezebel is nowhere to be seen. It has been a miserable three hour march, much of it taking place in the pouring tropical rain. Radiant Lightbringer is still too weak and injured to manage the pace, so The Sturg ended up having to carry him across his back. Thank god it was downhill at least.

However, as your weary and injured group trudges up the wide road back into town, you notice something odd. The flag of the Annwyn Empire (clearly one of the flags from the Lady Jezebel's flag store) flies over the town church, it's white and black clearly visible billowing in the moonlight as the rain finally tapers off.

Upon investigating, you find an oilskin envelope containing a note, tacked to the inner door of the sanctum using a jeweled dagger. You all remember the dagger as belong to Ozraeline. The note is written in Masriqi, though Red Alice's gift allows you to easily translate it.

"Freddy and the gang, we've made contact with some survivors from the town, they paddled out to the ship after sunset in some dugout canoes. Ali and I are writing this note in Masriqi, which hopefully no one else can read, you'll see later on why that is important. They warn us that a dragon attack is likely imminent and we need to move the 'Lady J' to a safer location. I believe them to be telling the truth, as does Ali, so we are taking their warning to heart and weighing anchor immediately. We've tried to use Tello's stones to contact you, but the damn things aren't working! I hope you are all safe and haven't been wounded or killed by the dragon!

The plan is to move the ship to a concealed anchorage a few coves north, still inside the protection of the reef. We will attempt to make the transit tonight under cover of darkness. One of the survivors who used to be a sailor, will accompany us as pilot. The leader of the survivors, an Amazonian named Kaela, assures us the coastal waterway is navigable that far north, at least at high tide, though it will be tricky, so we must move quickly. The cove could make us harder to find and offers some protection from the dragon, though if it finds us and comes for us, it will still be a dicey fight. From the sound of things, it's a big bastard and cunning, not some youngling wyrm. Be careful of it!

If you get this note, the survivors have a camp deep in the jungle that the dragon seems unaware of. It's too dangerous to draw a map, so I have provide you with written directions, I am sure Merus can track us down. I will lead a party back to the camp tomorrow morning and if you are not there, they will continue to the town and then up the road to look for you.

One final warning. Do not trust that kid! None of the survivors have ever met him or even remember him, which Kaela finds highly improbably. Kaela tells us that survivors of the relief expedition tell a similar story of meeting this exact child, that he convinced them to split their forces and march on the mountain immediately rather then scouting it out more carefully. They've pieced together that the dragon is probably a shapeshifter, and that one of the reasons the relief expedition was destroyed was confusion and bad tactics fomented by such mischief as he assumed variolous forms causing them to divide their forces.

Also, the story the kid told us about the burning skeletons and such is real. His whole story is mostly real, he just left out the dragon attack that finished the town off. Ali and I have pieced together the full story, will brief you when you return, but even if you killed the dragon don't assume the threat is ended, there is more going on here then just the wyrm.

If you see him again, be extremally careful.

hope to see you soon Freddy and the gang

don't worry we won't abandon you

love
