Angshire Kingdom

"For Glory and Good." - motto often found on Angshire minted coins

Angshire, officially the Kingdom of Angshire, is one of the biggest kingdoms in all of Aeries, second only to Vampyr in population. Known for its chivalrous code for knights, uncharted woodlands with mythical creatures, and majority Human and Halfling population.

The kingdom has been having recent troubles with Giant sightings in the North and rumors of Goblinoid tribes gathering in the central mountains.

Provinces and Points of Interest

  • The Sickle - Southern end of Angshire, closest to Chult and below of Goodwater Bay. Mostly farm lands spaced out between ancient ruins that have been repurposed to house small cities. Gets lots of travel from the Demonic Wastes and Chult.
  • The Rock - The Western coast and center of the landmass The Sickle is a part of. Some mountains in the center, but nothing compared to the ranges further North.
  • The Sword Coast - a coastal province on the upper west side of Angshire. The Coast is known for its bustling cities and wild frontiers. It's northern end shares a mountain border with Icewind Dale.
  • Unknown - A magical prison and asylum for spell-casters deemed too dangerous to be left on their own. A dirty rumor says that twisted magical experiments are done on some of the patients here...

Geography

Most of Angshire is wide evergreen forests and rolling hills that meet as mountain ranges in the center of the kingdom, as well as at the northern border that separates Angshire from Icewind Dale.

To the far east, Angshire has spans of cold deserts that act as natural barriers between the nation and its demonic wastelands neighbor.

The Crown of the World, the giant mountain range believed to hold the last Giant civilizations, rests at the northern-most borders of Angshire.

Much of the wilderness within Angshire is not charted and left to the locals to deal with. This means there are many areas throughout the realm that are pockets of civilization in-between spans of dangerous wilderness. The closer you get to the borders, the more wilderness there is between those pockets of civilization.

Green and Blue Aedra can be found throughout the lands. The blue Aedra is often on the surface, and does not produce anymore fumes. They glow in moonlight, however.

Economy

Angshire is known for its fine wines, tasty spices, and soft wool. Lumber that comes from the many giant woodlands within the kingdom is known for its strength and durability.

Politics

The Angshire kingdom has a diarchy of one Human king (with a royal spouse) and one Halfling king (with a royal spouse).

Religion

Much of Angshire worships the Morninglord and the Green Mother, though many closer to Chult's trade routes add the Cat Lord in their worships too.

The Eastern part of Angshire's top half has been witnessing a fast rise in a new sect of the Church of the Morninglord. This sect, known as The Flaming Fist, is known for their xenophobic preaching that warns of dangers from magic and non-Humans.

History

Angshire Kingdom's land was once used solely by the Halflings created by the gods to live in paradise. When the Dolish Goatmen forced a mass exodus of Humans (see Unknown's history section) and sent a thousand ships across the waters, the Halflings welcomed their new friends with open arms. The day when the ships first landed on the new shores is remembered as The Day of Good Faith, and is an important holiday to many Shire folk.

Conflicts

  • Kith vs Kin - Mankind's trauma from the Elf Wars of ancient Dolmenwood led the Humans off to a bad start with the native Elves and Orcs of Angshire's lands. Now, hundreds of years later, the conflict is still ongoing in one way or another. Cities persecute and oppress Wood Elves based on the word of a new and budding religious sect - elsewhere in the kingdom, Elves hidden deep in the woods attack caravans that travel the routes of the Empire, plundering their wares to survive. What can be done to put an end to this cycle of violence?
  • Man vs Nature - Much of Angshire is still wild lands waiting to be tamed by pioneers and frontiersmen. How far can the Empire stretch without wearing itself too thin? What can be done about the dangers of the ever expanding roads and what lurks beside them?
  • Radical vs Orthodox - The Church of the Morninglord has been at odds with a radical sect of the church that has branched off to form The Flaming Fist. These zealots, seemingly backed by the king of Angshire, impose bigoted and xenophobic laws wherever they settle. Book burnings, public floggings, and witch trials are all performed in the name of the Morninglord, while the orthodox Church works to fight against these injustices. What are the non-Human Kith to do in the face of this rising tide of tyranny? How does the Flaming Fist have its claws so deep in the kingdom already? Will the Church prevail in ousting the Fist and their cruel practices?
