Not everything is always a matter of life and death. To prevent the party from becoming individuals who commit murder at breakfast, lunch, and dinner, there are periods of downtime, which can be an afternoon, day, week, or even months or years.
By definition, downtime encompasses activities that are not interesting enough to fully roleplay. However, that doesn't mean it's entirely inconsequential.
Have a list of downtime activities ready for your character.
Active Downtime
Active downtime activities are activities that can have a small benefit attached to them, and might require a roll. Some examples are:
- Helping out Gasha Ugdug with running The Hog's Head.
- Chase rumours, investing a small amount of money for drinks and rolling Persuasion.
- Training a particular skill
- Performing research
- Working, for instance at the Docks or at Nerwen's Grace.
- Shopping
Passive Downtime
These are more "fluffy", for instance:
- Wandering around particular districts
- Going for a hike
- Watching the ships come and go at the Docks
- Reading
- Meditating
- etc.
