During the War of the Cross, Ulrick served as a mercenary - during this time he fought alongside a Vodacce mercenary by the name of Salvatore Falisci and the two still occasionally correspond.
Years after the war, once Ulrick had restored his family's holdings, he adopted a young girl by the name of Katarina von Holtz. Ever the troublesome explorer, Katarina ended up getting attacked by one of the many creatures that wander Eisen. Fortunately there was a travelling Inishman in the area and he was able to save her; that Inishman was Kean McMannon, he and Ulrick have maintained an association since.
