The heroes are told in the early morning by their fellow classmate Esi Djana that for their prerequisites they'll be helping with each of the school's five branches. Haidram Thodja, a fellow student who wishes to join the Rain-Scribes, requests that the heroes head to the Kafesi Market, a wandering bazaar around Nantambu, and to buy Ojofiri chickens, an endangered fowl who are known to hatch anything. They are asked to investigate the merchants and purchase at least four healthy chickens (two male and two female chicks). Esi gives them a pouch of 20 gp and tells them to hurry to the market.
After two hours searching around Nantambu the heroes find the market and discover Makena, the only chicken breeder with Ojofiri chicks. She has 6 chicks left. Hana is about to quickly pay full price for the chicks, but Renton stop hers so he can haggle with Makena. During his time haggling 2 chicks are sold with only 4 chicks left and Hana urges Renton to finish haggling so they come back with the required amount of Ojofiri chicks. Renton is able to bring the cost down to 2 gp per chick and they quickly purchase the remaining four birdies.
Hana recognizes that the baby chicks are especially fragile, and without special care during the damp and cold trek back to the academy during the rain day, they’ll get sick enough to die. The heroes pull some spare clothing in their backpacks and wrap the chicks in them before heading back to Magaambya. The heroes successfully deliver the four chicks alive and well to Esi and Haidram and split the remaining 12 gp amongst the six of them (2 gp each).
