Moonkin

Some say these folks with unnaturally light-colored hair and colorful eyes are just plain people that happen to be born with interesting features, while others say there must be a Dymarnian somewhere in their lineage.  The color of their hair depends on the genetics of their human ancestors, generally ranging from platinum (if they would have been blond), light tan (if they would have been brunette), silver (if they would have had black hair), light peach (if they would have had red hair), or white (if the underlying color isn't showing through).  Their eyes can be almost any color.  Unlike their Dymarnian ancestors, Moonkin have mortal souls.  They come of age at the same rate as humans, but aging does tend to slow after that, allowing them to live longer lives.  In rare cases, a Moonkin can live to see their 150th birthday.

Moonkin can have almost any of the same abilities their Dymarnian ancestor did, however, since they have a soul and enough human blood in them, they do not get Hardy Flesh (though they can be 'tougher' than other mortals) or innate Divine Magic (a higher power can still grant them Divine Magic like anyone else, they just aren't born with it).  They can, however, attune crystals.  Some have Tongues, but not all.  Most can be summoned by their True Name.  The Darkvision ability is also common, but they may not inherently know how to do it unless they have figured out they can connect with the moons to help them see.  Like pure Dymarnians, animals seem to either love or hate them.

Moonkin and Conarites

Here is how the different denominations of Conarism view the Moonkin.

  • Zorinity - An angel wouldn't have stooped so low as to couple with a human... and if they did, then their offspring should have never existed.  So whether a Moonkin's Dymarnian ancestor is an angel or a demon, they are an abomination.  Technically Moonkin are not allowed to practice Zorinity
  • Aenetrism -  Aenetrism welcomes the Moonkin, but they are also wary of them and hold them to higher standards, which can often result in them not quite feeling like they belong in these communities.  If they are angel-blooded, then obviously they ought to be extra good and we should expect nothing but their best otherwise we're not doing them justice.  If they are demon-blooded... being good might be an uphill battle for them but it's still possible, so we need to push them, and make sure they are good.
  • Lysonism - Their thoughts are similar to Zorinity.  An angel wouldn't have stooped so low as to couple with a human... and if they did, then their offspring should have never existed.  So whether a Moonkin's Dymarnian ancestor is an angel or a demon, they are an abomination.  They are not allowed to practice Lysonism, and any Moonkin that are found to have supernatural powers are burnt at the stake alongside the mages.
  • Path of Seno - So they have a bit of angel or demon blood in them, it's just something that makes them unique.  Humans all have good and bad in them too, but always have a choice.  Moonkin are no different.
  • Children of Ivo - Their leader is a Moonkin, so of course they view the Moonkin as a cut above the rest; they are inherently wise and they ought to be raised for leadership.
