Dibrael goes to his room and finds Zaz alone in the bath, silently panicking about his bounty
- Zaz tries to pretend that nothing's wrong, but Dibrael brings up the wanted poster
- Dibrael insists he doesn't plan to turn him in, he just wants to understand

- Zaz admits that he's been on the run since he was a child, and that his whole village is dead because of him
- he is convinced that he's cursed, the cause of all their suffering, and plans to leave the city tomorrow
- Dibrael regrets bringing it up; he just wants Zaz to be safe
- Zaz goes to bed and Dibrael returns downstairs to give him privacy
Mylz takes Junior, Skjorn, and Dibrael to go pick out a mount
- Junior is very excited to see the giant riding lizards; Skjorn isn't really sure what to think of them
- all the lizards have weird names like Boat, Soup, and Mud
- Mylz notices Dibrael dissociating and tries to engage him in lizard talk; Skjorn says "we're here for you (but not me)"
- Mylz tests out a lizard named Horse and decides it's The One
- Dibrael tests out riding Horse and starts to feel better
- Junior hears the word "dad" and asks what it means; Mylz and Dibrael explain and Skjorn thinks they're confusing a dad for a nanny
