Formerly a government official serving the Verdan Court, Basil has long been a staunch ally of the rebellion in the realm and was a valuable source of secret information in the early days of the resistance. When the time came to choose and official leader of the new "government" Basil thought himself to be the obvious choice due to his experience and seniority in the organization and thus was incredibly surprised when Kithri Malrose was chosen to lead instead. Though disappointed, he nevertheless gracefully accepted his appointment to The Realm Council where he has been serving faithfully for the past years since the rebellion's initial success.
This loyalty would prove to be a farce however, as Basil's part in the plot of assassinate Kithri and, unbeknownst to himself the entire Council, came to light. Though he had spent the past years doing what he could to faithfully serve his nation's interests he was unable to let go of his resentment at being passed over for leadership, especially as problems began to arise in Verden due, he believed, to Kithri's lack of leadership experience. And so, when he was approached by agents of the Monarchy for aid in eliminating the rebellion's leader, he saw this as the perfect opportunity to remove what he saw to be the only obstacle in his path to taking his rightful place of power.
