Used to run a small band of rebel mercenaries that all grew up together called the Wild Geese, Miwa's first interaction was during their second year on the war front. These so-called Wild geese consistently ended up in Miwa's care, they were fierce fighters but inpatient and brash all harboring a death wish to different degrees. For most of them, this war and cause was reason enough to live and to die retaking even one more village was worth it, but they had the devil's own luck and rarely lost members for the years they were together. After several such incidents of appearing at Miwa's table, they started returning from battles bearing gifts of wine or ale, and would often be discharged with a "see you again soon" and a cheeky smile. Pip themself, Miwa would learn was a formally trained soldier, having grown up a monarchist; But after learning of plans to raze his hometown on the false premise of an elemental being hidden there, he would promptly switch sides and take up arms. He lost his younger sister in the ensuing battle and has yet to forgive himself or the monarchy.
Although a Merc group, money is only a tertiary concern. Their primary concern is a battlefield worth dying on, and their secondary concern is a decent cause, based on Pip's moral compass, which starts neutral but leans slightly good.
