The Seraphim of Light
Description: As god of the sun and light, Pelor is a defender and protector of all
in need, sometimes called the Sun Father. He is also the god of strength and
healing, preaching perseverance in the fight against evil. He has several
temples in the nation of Landfall, but very few elsewhere. It is said that
Pelor spends most of his power protecting the earth and its inhabitants,
and that the sun is the manifestation of this power. Paladins, rangers,
and other champions of good revere him, as do many of the common folk.
He is depicted as an older man with wild golden hair and beard, dressed in robes of shining white. Frequently a golden eagle flies near him, or is perched upon his shoulder. Pelor's priests tend to dress in yellow, with white trim. As the priests advance in rank, the white becomes more prevalent, until the leaders are dressed almost completely in white robes. His symbol is a solar star and his animal is a golden eagle.
Dogma
Pelorians believe that the life-giving sun is the best cure for all of the world's ills. Justice and freedom are brought about through charity, modesty, perseverance, and self-sacrifice. Pelor’s priests teach that the truly strong don’t need to prove their power. Pelorians strive to perform so many good acts that evil has no room in which to exist, though they will fight if necessary. Pelor is wrathful against the forces of evil, and is especially opposed to the undead. However, Pelor urges his followers to remember that excessive attention to things of evil can blind one to the truly important things: compassion and goodness. These are what must be emphasized above all.
The dark god Anshar has been a longtime foe of Pelor's, due to Anshar's focus on darkness, combat, and suffering. Pelor has also fought against the minions of the demon Orcus, due to that vile creature's focus on the unnatural and the undead. More recently, there have been clashes with the Vaesir goddess Umberlee, patron of the dark oceans and the undead. Pelor's most constant ally has been with the forces and followers of Bahamut. Pelorians maintain good relations with the majority of Old Faith followers, who have been known to term Pelor as "Sol".
