Vermis city was built on the ruins of an unknown culture after refugees from the Wensharian Civil War, fled north. Many of the decayed and weathered structures that remain standing appear to have some type of serpent/dragon motif, which the refugees considered a sign from Tiamat.
Today the western side of the city is dominated by the construction of a large and towering ziggurat, the personal project of Czar Vlasta Grigoryan, head of the Arcane Guild of the Purple Wizards. Much money has been spent, and many slaves have died during its construction. It currently stands 2/3rds complete, with an estimated final height of 1,200 feet. It currently has no formal name, known merely and obviously as "The Ziggurat".
