The Diligence is an order of knights and templars (paladins) that are sworn to protect the common people from the danger of out of control magic users and arcane power.
One of the core beliefs of the Diligence is that magic is a corrupting influence. One of their commandments is that "magic exists to serve man, and never to rule over him." While many disagree about the meaning of this phrase, the Solis Bastion believes that it means that mages must be carefully monitored.
The Diligence was formed in the lead up to the Wensharian Civil War, to combat the fiends that had subverted the government of the Wensharian Empire. The Diligence contributed to the success of the rebellion and the defeat of the corrupted Wensharians, it was greatly diminished and much of its history was lost in the following Dark Ages. Many of the adherents of the Diligence are followers of the Imperial Temple, but the dilgence itself follows no one deity.
Tenets of the Order
- Sorcery (demonology) is a form of magic that is unacceptable under any circumstances.
- Diligence requires Courage, Duty, and Vigilance, lest you falter.
- Seek out and defeat the corruption of those that wield magic, but keep your vision clear.
