Manta Ships have been around as long as there have been spelljamming ships traveling the wildspace and the astral, however their origin still remains a mystery.  One of the elder spelljamming races used modified versions of these "living" ships, but still may not have been their creators.  Those manta ships seen in use are fast, rivaling damselfly ships in their speed.  It is rumored that the speed and maneuverability of the ships were tied in someway to the captain/pilot, much like rare and legendary major helms are reputed to do.
