Illefarn, The Forgotten Kingdom

More than 1,000 years ago, Illefarn, including the Faerwych Forest, and the Skalteran Mountains,  were part of what is now called the Fallen Kingdom. This was a flourishing kingdom of High Elves (Eladrin) and Forest Elves (Sylvan) with a substructure of dwarves who did most of the crafting and mining.

The rise of several strongholds of evil humanoids from the west, and the machinations of the Veil Empire eventually spelled doom for the ancient kingdom.

Unable to match the sheer numbers of gnolls, goblins, trolls, and other creatures recruited by the forces of evil, the elven king invited humans to settle the lands. The humans willingly allied themselves with the kingdom and fought long and hard against the evil creatures (except, of course, for those humans who decided their best interests were with the forces of

evil). After an intermittent war lasting two centuries, the forces of evil were once again beaten back to the current site of Dragonspear Castle.  A great human warrior named Chulain and his clansmen were greatly instrumental in turning the tide at Dragonspear, before being forced to retreat.  Chulain and his clan were celebrated as heroes and elfriends, and settled in a small castle northeast of the elven town of  Glyderinga.

But when the dust had settled, the elves looked about and realized that much of their forests had been turned into human towns. Human craftsmen had generally supplanted the dwarves, and the land they had fought for was no longer theirs.  After the downfall, the majority of the remaining alfar fled to east to Averoigne, while others fled northward into the mysterious depths of the Celedryl Forest.  The only exceptions were several clans of sylvan alfar, who bitterly swore to remain and protect their lost forests, and one large clan of dwarves (Eisenstam). The dwarves have yet to replenish their losses from that long war and live mostly in seclusion.
