Feast of the Hunter, (The Feasting)
Is a holiday that originated with the The Old Faith and has since spread across the continent of Alyndryca.
The Feast of the Hunter, was a two-day holy rite observed by followers of nature and wilderness spirits observed each year on the 19th and 20th of Novus.
For a 14day leading up to the Feasting, the hunters, druids, and faithful of nature spirits and the The Old Faith would embarked on a frenzy of hunting and killing of wild beasts in order to collect a vast amount of meat. On the Feast of the Stags , they paraded through settled areas bearing the heads of their kills, and invited everyone to join them in feasting on the meats (as well as other side dishes). All were welcome, even followers of normally opposing ethics attended and honored "the Peace of the Table", meaning that even rivals of the faith were welcome to join in the harvest.
While on the surface there appeared to be an emphasis on hunting and slaughter, the meat gathered for the feasts helped communities set up and store food for the winter. During the event, hunters would make public declarations to continue to hunt throughout the winter months in order to provide food for specific individuals in need, generally including the elderly, the infirm, orphans, and widows.
