Tethalorn

The Arcane Trismegistus, the Prismatic Mage, All Master of the Arcane

Tethalorn is a deity that embodies the knowledge, magic, and mastery of arcane arts. He is revered by scholars, sages, and spellcasters alike for his vast wisdom and unparalleled understanding of the arcane. His followers seek to increase their knowledge and mastery of magic, and Tethalorn is said to bestow upon them the secrets of the universe and the power to bend the fabric of reality.

He believes that knowledge and magic should be wielded for the betterment of all, and is known for his cunning and strategic nature. Tethalorn's followers strive to maintain balance and order in the world, using their knowledge and mastery of magic to shape the future and protect the innocent.

"Mastery is not domination, but understanding. Magic does not obey, it reveals."

- Tethalorn.

Appearance

Tethalorn is depicted as a tall, regal figure, his frame slender and poised, exuding an aura of quiet intensity. His skin is pale as moonlight, with eyes that shimmer like mirrored constellations, ever shifting between hues of arcane energy. He wears flowing, prismatic robes that refract light into spell forms, as if woven from the strands of the Weave itself. Tethalorn is often shown holding an ornate, rune-covered tome in one hand and a wand of living crystal in the other, his presence evoking awe and intellectual reverence.

Godhood

Tethalorn was once a mortal archmage of unmatched brilliance, born in an era when magic was raw, dangerous, and poorly understood. While others sought glory or power, he pursued knowledge for its own sake—unlocking the fundamental laws that governed the arcane and documenting truths that others feared to seek. Legends say he wandered across planes, conversed with elementals and star-beings, and inscribed his findings in the infinite pages of the Codex Mirabilis, a tome that could only be read by those who understood what they were yet to learn.

His transformation into a god came not through conquest or divine favor, but through understanding. Tethalorn mapped the paths of magic so precisely that he reached a point where he could see through the Weave, and then beyond it. In doing so, he became part of its structure—a self-aware equation woven into the arcane tapestry of the world. The gods did not grant him a seat among them; they found he was already there, having arrived by calculation alone.

Though many arcane gods exist, Tethalorn is unique in his neutrality. He does not hoard knowledge, but neither does he give it freely. He tests those who seek his aid, offering riddles wrapped in spells, or visions that must be decoded through will and wit. His presence is felt in the silence before an incantation, in the flicker of insight during study, and in the calm certainty of a spell perfectly cast.

Worshippers

Tethalorn's followers, often called the Scholars of the Arcane, are a disciplined and introspective order. They wear layered robes in silver, violet, and blue—tones associated with starlight, thought, and magical flow. Each adherent carries a personal grimoire, which they add to with spells, formulas, and insights earned through study or revelation. In temples and sanctums, offerings are made in the form of written knowledge, magical artifacts, or solutions to long-standing arcane problems. Debate, experimentation, and quiet contemplation are central to their rites.

The followers of Tethalorn believe that knowledge is power, and that the pursuit of knowledge and mastery is the highest calling. They believe that, with enough study and practice, anyone can achieve mastery of the arcane, and that the god will reward those who do so with even greater knowledge and power.

Tenets of Faith

  • Knowledge is power - but only when tempered by purpose.
  • To master magic, one must first understand the self.
  • Preserve knowledge. Share it with those prepared to receive it.
  • Let no spell be cast without understanding its cost.
  • The arcane is a language. Speak it with clarity, or not at all.

Codex Mirabilis

A divine object never fully separated from Tethalorn himself, but which manifests fragments in the world for mortals to discover, interpret, and protect.

Such legendary objects are often quickly sealed away as relics when discovered, although none can predict when or where they will come into existence.

These individual relics are referred to as a Page of the Codex Mirabilis.
