This single page of impossibly thin, metallic-vellum script is said to have unfolded itself into the world from the infinite tome of Tethalorn, the god of arcane mastery. The page is covered in shifting runes and mirrored diagrams, written in a language that seems to rearrange itself based on the reader’s understanding. To some, the script is incomprehensible; to others, it is a ladder of insight. Holding it feels like grasping a still-burning thought.
Scholars believe that no two pages are the same. Each represents a unique fragment of the god’s own discoveries—a living idea, trimmed from the Codex and entrusted to the world.
Properties:
Arcane Conduit. While attuned, you gain a +2 bonus to spell attack rolls and to your spell save DC.
Mnemonic Matrix. Once per long rest, when you cast a spell of 5th level or lower, you may cast it without expending a spell slot. The spell must be one you know or have prepared, and must be of a school of magic featured in the shifting diagrams of the page that day (determined by rolling 1d8: 1 = Abjuration, 2 = Conjuration, etc.).
Insight Unbound. Once per week, you may meditate for 8 hours while attuned to the page. During this time, the runes realign to show you a hidden truth, rare spell formula, or magical revelation. Roll a d100:
-
01–25: You learn a rare spell or gain temporary insight into a puzzle, riddle, or arcane phenomenon.
-
26–75: You gain advantage on all Intelligence checks related to magic for 7 days.
-
76–95: You may replace one known spell or prepared spell with another from your class list.
-
96–100: The page glows with divine light. The next spell you cast becomes Divinely Perfected: it cannot be countered, requires no components, and automatically succeeds, if it would require a check or saving throw.
Truthward Sigil. The bearer of the page is under the effects of a constant detect magic spell and is immune to Modify Memory. If they die, the page vanishes—either to return to the Codex or to reappear where another worthy mind will find it.
Lore
The Page of the Codex Mirabilis is not stolen, torn, or cast off. It is offered—a trial in parchment, sent to test and uplift those ready to step beyond mortal understanding. Temples of Tethalorn consider it both a relic and a question: why this page, and why now? Entire orders have formed around interpreting its text, only to have it change meaning decades later when viewed in a new magical paradigm.
It is said that if three pages are ever brought together, they will align and temporarily reveal one full chapter of the Codex—enough to rewrite the future.
