Session Recap:
Trapped in the East Tower, the group is confronted by a Tyrthlien Raiding band. Antioch takens the mule and cart down the tunnel as Maeve and Truston climb into the rafters of the first story and Cedric and Zen raise their shields at the door. Several shadow hounds rush the tower and leap through the side windows to attack. Their movements are fluid and hard to follow in the dim light as they slip from shadow to shadow. Zen and Cedric exchanging blows with the hounds, crippling one and engaging the other. A third shadowslips up into the rafters with Maeve to attack her. Trustin drops to the ground and opens the door in the towers floor.
Zen summons a guardian weapon and uses it to put down the wounded shadowhound. In the moments after, its body contracts, spasming, and then erupts in a ball of fire. The three party members on the ground do their best to avoid the sudden blast, but the second shadow hound is caught in the blast and also self immolates. Maeve fights off the third Shadowhound and leaps down. It follows her, but shadowslips halfway to appear behind Cedric and sink its teeth deep into his flank. Cedric seizes it in a grapple around its neck and brings it to the floor, attempting to avoid another death burst.
Through the open door, a larger Hellmaw and it's rider are seen barreling towards the towers entryway. Zen uses his guardian weapon to knock the beasts charge awry, unseating the rider and sending him tumbling in through the towers doorway and over the writhing bodies of Cedric and the shadowhound. Maeve reacts quickly, using thornwhip to ensnare the raiders as he attempts to scrabble to his feet and drag him down into the passageway with the others. Cedric releases the Shadowhound and dives through the doorway with the beast hot on his heels as Trustin activates the mechanism and closes them inside.
Inside the tunnel, a brief and fierce fight ensues as blows are traded back and forth. The raider puts up a disciplined and ferocious attack, but seems off balance and slightly disoriented. Zen eventually blasts him with a spell that sends him flying limply into a far wall. Several heartbeats later, the raider takes a gasping breath and begins to start rising to his feet before Zen subdues him once more. The Shadowhound is killed, triggering its death blast and causing part of the tunnel roof to collapse and seal off deeper access into the tunnels. The party restrain the raider, heal up and take stock of their options.
In the raiders satchel, they find an assortment of papers, objects and gold that have been taken from travellers. Amongst them is a small bloodlocked box. Trustin opens the box and the item within attunes itself to him immediately, cheerfully offering assistance. The party attempted to interroagte the raider with little success. Trustin suspects that the raider has heard the name lysander before, but is unsure as to the depth of the connection. They wait until mid morning to open the passageway and emmerge into the daylight to make the trip back into Fairstead.
