Perilor

Highlord of the Brimstone Order

Highlord Perilor, known by many faces and names throughout Falanar's stories history, but most commonly recognized for being a towering figure clad in obsidian armour, is the leader of The Brimstone Order and a Devil Lord of Avernus. Perilor appears many times throughout Falanar's storied history, often for brief periods of time following large scale conflicts or tragedies, and is only mentioned in seldom few instances beyond describing the ever-changing figure who exists to guide an order of cultists dedicated to the retrieval of magical artifacts.

Description

Perilor has taken various forms throughout the years, though the common depiction is that of a towering figure in hulking black armour formed of blistering obsidian plates. This is the assumed true form the devil lord takes, but it is not uncommon for various guises to be worn in an effort to not arouse as much suspicion or attract as much attention. While there is no way to guarantee that the depicted forms were Perilor, the recurrence of similar looks and matching facial details throughout the centuries, well passed the lifespan of the average mortal, lead certain scholars on the topic of history to conclude that these are the favoured form of the devil lord.

The most common forms Perilor has taken are a male and female moon elf with burning orange eyes, pale skin, and snow-white hair. Slight differences have occurred but these forms seem to be the most documented.

Perilor's most common appearance, and the one that is most referenced in historical documents, is that of a towering figure clad in armour made from obsidian, with hellfire illuminating the armour from within. This description matches several documented appearances as well as salvaged pieces of art, and one eye-witness report.

There appear to be variations in the armour Perilor wears as well, not surprising given the tendency to shapeshift, so it is not uncommon to find inconsistencies with historical depictions.

Personality

While undeniably self-interested and favouring their own goals above all, Perilor was not so near-sighted and uncompromising as to be selfish, quite the opposite in fact. They had a spotty and varied history for charity, compassion, selflessness, and humility that contrasted the reality of arrogance, pride, and savagery that made it entirely difficult to pin down exactly what the true motivations were that drove them. The reality was not that Perilor had ambitions incomprehensible to mortals, but simply that the devil lord delighted in the shaping of Falanar as a coninent and treated it merely as their own personal playground at times.

Despite all of this, Perilor did hold fast to two defining tenants that guided the founding of the Brimstone Order and that all it's members, including their leader, adhere to; they believe in the personal freedoms of the individual to live their life however they want, and that mortals and magic were a generally terrible combination.

Abilities

Perilor was an impressive martial combatant who bolstered their strength with fiendish magics based around the elusive element of hellfire, a flame that burned through the strongest materials and tempered the most impressive of obsidian weapons, the pinnacle of these was Perilor's own obsidian greatsword which doubled as a foci for magic. They were also capable of creating advanced mirror images of themself that retained fractions of their power and were capable of guarding areas or warding off tresspassers.

Perilor was strong enough to take on a massive purple worm alone, and had felled similarly impressive foes by stealing magic from nearby sources to power their attacks. This meant they could use magical items to temporarily empower themselves and leave the items inert for a time until they could regain magical charge, or otherwise drain them of their powers entirely and either break them or turn them mundane.

While vulnerable out of their armor, the obsidian plate armor Perilor wore was neigh unbreakable and produced an aura of magical heat that could sear anybody getting too close without adequate protection.

History

TBA

The most recent appearance of Perilor has many scholars perplexed as there had been absolutely no activity from Perilor or the Brimstone Order as far as anybody was able to tell for at least fifty years, but suddenly the devil-lord appeared to seemingly save Regus from the Purple Worm that had besieged the city with drow raiding parties, only to then take over the ruins of the city and resurrect their cult and leave once again.

During Perilor's reign as the unofficial ruler of Regus, many magical items went missing from the city as well as the surrounding province. Thankfully, the cult left Regus in a better state than when they moved in, having repaired much of the infrastructure and walls before leaving which made the reconstruction efforts much easier.
