Dantooine

Background

Dantooine was a pleasant world of pastel grasslands dotted with trees, rivers and lakes, located in the Raioballo sector of the Outer Rim; however, the planet itself was still rather far-removed from most galactic traffic.

Current Affairs
Dantooine now serves as the main temple for the new Jedi Order. It is the hub of Jedi activity and has hundreds of Padawans and Knights that call it home, along with the Jedi Council.

The Jedi Temple

The Dantooine Jedi Temple, sometimes also called the Jedi Enclave or just “The Jedi Building” by the locals, is a four storey tall complex situated on the outskirts of the recently revitalised town of Khoonda. The Temple has five floors, including the ground floor, as well as a basement level below ground.

Temple Grounds

Outside of the main temple building, the Temple Grounds covers a fairly large area. Closest to the building itself is the Temple Dojo, used as the primary area for Lightsaber and combat instruction, including practice droids, state of the art training equipment and an elaborate obstacle course with various stopping points, allowing it to be used for physical training by beginners and experts alike. Training sabers are available in the Dojo to use in the Dojo. Real Lightsabers that have been donated for one reason or another and have been determined to be safe are stored here and can be accessed for training purposes, but only with the Datacard ID of the Battlemaster or certain senior Jedi. This can be waived in special circumstances.

Off to the side at various points of the course's path or in other more secluded natural areas nearby are various marked Meditation Areas, which can be used and enjoyed both in solitude or in groups, with more specific zones of these areas provided for those who may need to be alone. These areas are cleaned and maintained regularly by members of the Service Corps and Jedi volunteers when not in use.

On the opposite end of the grounds from the Dojo are the Animal Enclosures, though how much space or actual restriction each “enclosure” provides can vary wildly and is dependent on individual species and their needs in regards to space, play, stimulation and nutrition. Expert Jedi, assisted by Service Corps members, ensure that every animal staying at the Temple is properly cared for.

Ground Floor

The main entrance to the Jedi Temple contains a spacious main courtyard and visiting areas for those from outside the Order, with various sources of information and insight. Beyond these areas, much of the Temple's ground floor is taken up with the Hangar Bays, with landing bays both within the building itself and extant landing pads attached to the outside. The Hangar Bays also lead down into the main speeder garage of the temple, where land based vehicles can be easily accessed or loaded onto starships. From the ground floor, turbolifts and stairwells are spread around for easy travel to the other floors, with a Datacard ID required for access.

1st Floor

The First Floor is primarily split into two halves. The first half of the floor is taken up by the Medical Bay, which covers medical treatment, long-term care, clinical work and various other medical duties. Some of these areas, especially those areas pertaining to individuals’ medical records, are restricted to medically certified Jedi or other senior members of the Order with specific permission. This can be waived in special circumstances.

The other half of the first floor is the space used by the Jedi Archives. There are various subsections within the Archives, and though the Jedi Lorekeeper runs the Archives as a whole, each subsection is managed by an Archivist who keeps everything individually catalogued and maintained. There are various assistant archivists as well, both from the Service Corps or volunteer Jedi. The Archives, while primarily containing databooks and physical copies of information, also has holoprojectors for more visual or aural learners, with Jedi encouraged to record readings for future listeners. There are also lesson areas for classes and dedicated social or quiet reading areas.

Attached to the Archives is the HoloNet Room, where there are dedicated Holoterminals for Jedi to use, even if many younger students already have mobile HoloNet datapads. This also contains the servers for connection to the HoloNet from the Temple, as Dantooine’s more remote location requires this infrastructure.

2nd Floor

The Second Floor of the Jedi Temple is almost entirely taken up by the Dorms and Offices of the many Jedi. Upon joining the Order, those who wish to stay at the Temple will be given their own Quarters. Though they do not have to share, communal rooms are also available for Jedi who prefer roommates. Each set of quarters comes with various amenities and everything that could be needed, with adjustments able to be made for different species, temperature or climate needs.

Across from the living quarters are the Jedi Offices, which contain HoloNet Terminals, office supplies and various other materials for use in administrative work. All knights are given access to a personal office should they wish to use it, and each office contains extra Holoterminals and desks to be used by the Knight’s Padawans as required. Specific offices are also reserved for use by Jedi with extra responsibilities, such as the Jedi Masters or those managing specific areas of the temple. Though not taking up much space on the second floor, there are also various Meditation Rooms and outcroppings for gardens on this floor, with both communal garden spaces and spaces that Jedi can reserve for more personal projects.

3rd Floor

The Third Floor, also known as the Student Floor, is split into three areas. The first area is reserved for training rooms that are used in more practical lessons, primarily practical applications and uses of the force, though not exclusively. Also included are rooms for training more general and technical skills, as well as beginner lessons in the use of training sabers for younglings, at least until they are old enough for the more intense training that usually takes place in the Dojo.

The second area is composed of Classrooms and Lecture Halls, for youngling and adult learners respectively. These teaching rooms can vary in setup and size, with some being more like small break rooms for debate and discussions, with others being full halls with holoprojectors, terminals and other advanced teaching tools for use. They are used for teaching theory, running through scenarios, helping students with socialisation and more.

Lastly, the rest of the third floor is taken up by the Cafeteria and dining area attached to it, with skilled cooks and chefs from the Service Corps or volunteer Jedi providing meals of all kinds for the various Jedi and staff. The seating areas vary from simple chairs and tables, booths, and to groups of couches or other comfortable seating. Food is served throughout the day and varies over the course of each day, from Core World delicacies to Twi'lek Munch-fungus.

4th Floor

The Fourth Floor contains three main areas, the first and most notable being the Council Chambers. There are various Antechambers for discussion, storage and other purposes, all attached to the main Council Chamber. This is where the Jedi Council, composed of Masters both on Dantooine and currently off world, meet both in person and through holoprojection. They discuss the current state of the Order, future plans for the organisation, the advancement of students and Knights, and much more. These meetings are held regularly, but emergency council meetings are also called for urgent or rapidly developing situations or discussions. Groups of or even individual Jedi may be called to Council Meetings to provide information, expertise or testimony.

On the opposite end of the fourth floor sits the Research Wing of the Jedi Order. While this is primarily composed of scientific laboratories, other rooms and specialised chambers are also present here for different kinds of research and investigations. Much of this area is classified, with one Council Master (currently Master Avak Reeven) having full access to all areas, and other designated areas being accessible to certain senior Jedi. Jedi assigned to projects and investigations may be given temporary access to certain areas, even Padawans. In-between these two areas on the Fourth Floor is the Communications Room. This area is used for long-distance or encoded communications both receiving and sending, and is where holocalls or messages are screened before being sent to the appropriate recipient. Research or investigation into signals and codes can also take place in the Communications Room.

Basement Floor

The underground basement floor of the temple has two notable areas. The first is the Artifact Vault, only accessible from the Archives and currently only able to be accessed by the Datacard IDs of the Jedi Loremaster and one Council Master (Currently Tra'seya) as well as certain senior Jedi. Others may petition for temporary access for study, and Jedi Knights are generally permitted to be given access to study artifacts, but not remove them without express permission. Sith Holocrons, Lightsabers, as well as other artifacts and teachings tainted by the Dark Side of the Force are kept here. There is an emergency hatch leading to the Evacuation Tunnels, but this cannot be used to return to the Vault.

The Evacuation Tunnels take up the rest of the basement floor and extend throughout and far beyond the Temple Grounds. Able to be accessed from any floor of the temple through Turbolifts, stairwells and emergency hatches, these tunnels are to be used in an emergency situation to protect Jedi, Service Corps members and citizens of Khoonda from danger. These tunnels connect to the Khoonda Spaceport and to evacuation zones much farther away, intended to get noncombatants, wounded and others a far distance away from potential danger.

Khoonda

Khoonda is a settlement with a very long history on Dantooine, named for the great Khoonda Plains it is situated in. Over millennia, settlements with this name have been raised, left and founded again. The current town of Khoonda had cropped up very close to where the site of where the Jedi Temple is now situated, and the growth of the town has been stimulated by the influx of Jedi, visitors and offworlders wanting to help the Order. The town itself has a Residential and Market district, with the area near the Khoonda Spaceport being considered distinct enough to be counted separate, though they haven't started calling it the Spaceport District quite yet.

Residental District

The Residential District is characterised by not only the houses people live in, but the notable community buildings situated there. The Khoonda School is the first situated at the edge of the District, and is intended for children from young ages all the way to teenagers at the edge of adulthood. While many children at the Order are educated at the Temple itself, including younglings and the children of Jedi, there are classes or field trips arranged both at the School and the Temple for learners at both.

Two of the main buildings in the District are administrative - the first and largest is the Town Hall, which acts as a community centre, the hub of Khoonda’s communications and data infrastructure and an office for the Mayor. The building itself, while being large, is practical rather than opulent, with the inside consisting of warm colours intended to be welcoming and relaxing for staff, citizens and visitors alike.

The second administrative building is the Sheriff's Office, which doesn't stand out much from any regular house or small business from the outside. On the inside, it consists of the actual office and front areas, an armoury, interview rooms and a few cells. Notably, it has no capacity for holding prisoners long term, and those found guilty of serious crimes are transported to Garang Prison in the capital city.

Naturally, the Residential District has many homes, and there is a thriving construction business of new homes continually expanding as more people are drawn to the town. Jedi are welcome to purchase homes within Khoonda as well, and many Jedi with families have bought or rented so they and their loved ones can stay together on Dantooine.

Market District

Named for the concentration of businesses and bazaars hosted within it, the Market District is also where leisure centres and many gathering or hangout spots are for the community. The biggest watering hole and the most popular social centre is currently the Kinrath's Corner Cantina, run by a surly Dug named Bana Vooko. The Kinrath's Corner, often just referred to as the Corner, has a bar, eating and drinking areas, a dance floor, and even upstairs rooms for private parties and special occasions.

There are many stores throughout the Market District, with two notably popular businesses amongst the locals that sit on the opposite side of one street. The first, Tibannablast, is a weapons store, though it is first and foremost centred around blasters. The owner, Allor Zhug, is an Abednedo veteran of the Galactic Civil War and a lover of weapons, genuinely enjoying the craft to the point that he could talk for hours about just one weapon or line of weapons if a customer gets him started.

The opposite store, Vibro-Jo’s, is a survival store most known for its camping gear and primarily the high quality vibroknives sold by Joleen Dza’Ov, a female Bothan with a passion for exploration and an even more intense passion for credits. She knows her stuff but tends to be a little cagey, and locals know you won't get information unless you explicitly ask for it, even about the stuff you're buying.

Within the Market District are a number of restaurants, with one of the most popular being the Bantha Bar & Grill. Named after the large herding animal from the original owner’s homeworld, this chain restaurant arrived in Khoonda before many others and built up a loyal customer base as a result, offering meats and other various foods from all over the galaxy.

Amongst the Cafés of the Market District, the Forceful Blend quickly stood out and established itself, theming the local business entirely around the Jedi and their presence. While there was some bemusement from the Temple at first (especially with a logo looking suspiciously like the Grandmaster of the Order), it has quickly become a beloved spot for gathering for both the locals and Jedi students in particular. With caf blends such as the “Dark Side Roast” available, it has become a favoured spot who just enjoy the drinks, as well.

"Spaceport" Distict

While only jokingly referred to as a district by a few, the area around the Spaceport has quickly developed an atmosphere all on its own. Warehouses, logistics and shipping business, private storage bays, even off license stores for spacers have all cropped up thanks to the much bigger influx of traffic caused by the Temple and growing town. Despite that, there are two places most known in this area. The first is the New Republic Embassy, headed by the Mirialan Jeff’ri Visz and populated by various New Republic staff. The Embassy is a complex all on its own, with facilities for immigration and signing up for citizenship or military recruitment.

Not far from the Embassy is the Headquarters of the Jedi Service Corps. The Corps have a main building housing office space for the Senior Jedi in charge, the heads of various departments, and those handling the most intense administrative work along with space and facilities for those wishing to find out about the Service Corps and the opportunities offered. There are also a few ancillary buildings for the various departments and roles, as well as a hub for the management of the members of the Service Corps at the other temples or otherwise offworld. The actual Corps themselves on Dantooine are a mix of local people and those coming from other planets, and they remain popular in town as a good employer, including for younger people to gain experience for later careers.

Khoonda Outskirts

Outside of the town proper but not quite reaching the savannah of the Khoonda Plains are the town's greenhouses, farms and other agricultural centres. These are vital to the town's prosperity and survival, with the healthy and well-guarded soil being a point of local pride. Due to this, the town's watchtower, staffed by members of the local militia is always occupied and there are usually one or two Jedi assisting with the farms, both of which are helpful for keeping away curious and hungry Kath Hounds or other scavengers.
