The Jedi Order

After the battle of Endor Luke would discover the first of the eventual four masters of the Order with the framework of the New Jedi Order beginning to first form in the early years of reconstruction on Coruscant after the sack. Luke, along with what would later become the Jedi council, over the course of aiding the people of Coruscant began to establish his ideas on what these new Jedi are and should be. During those initial years, Luke concluded that a new Jedi Order would need to embrace two fundamental principles; every Jedi would need the freedom to embrace the Force in their own way, and the Jedi must have the freedom to choose to do what is right, regardless of political consequences. And thus Luke chose to form the new Order outside Republic space with the Republic’s blessing, independent of any government’s authority.

Structure

The Jedi Order tries to share much in tandem with the old one in this regard, though without a full picture of how the old order truly was, they’ve had to make a lot of adjustments. At the most ideal, one is enrolled in the Order when they are a child to be educated into a youngling, and then become an initiate in their teen years, eventually growing into a padawan before graduating to knighthood (and in theory, if they are deemed wise enough, perhaps even master). Though there are a generation of Jedi who’ve been/are being brought up this way, the order is still so young the current majority of its recruits are sourced from adults who have been discovered to be Force sensitive.

These members are then split between the four temples each headed by a separate master with their own personal views and nuances on the force; The greatest of which and where the Jedi Council convenes in times of great importance is Dantooine, which is headed by none other than Luke Skywalker himself.  Originally Dantooine was the only temple, but to grow the Order’s reach as well as to follow Luke’s teachings and walk their own path, each of the masters; save the loremaster; went out into the galaxy either to resurrect an old temple or begin a new one.

The masters of each of these temples, in addition to the Loremaster(who travels between every temple), make up the Jedi Council headed by Grandmaster Luke. Usually the council convenes by holoterminal multiple times a week for meetings about the day-to-day operations of the Order, however during times of great duress the Order may be called in person to Dantooine to ensure absolute security.  Currently in the history of the Order this has only been done twice.

Main Temple

Location: Dantooine
Summary: The Dantooine Jedi Temple serves as the hub for Jedi activity throughout the galaxy. Hundreds of Jedi Knights and Padawans call the Temple home, and at any given time dozens of missions are taking place. The Temple is under the direct leadership of the Grandmaster of the Order, Luke Skywalker himself. He’s advised by a council of Jedi Masters, hand picked for their expertise and perspectives, which often challenge his own. By its sheer size and diverse makeup, the Dantooine Temple engages in all manner of activities, from learning and meditation to rigorous and dangerous combat missions. If anyone in the galaxy needs the aid of the Jedi, the Dantooine Temple is where they go. In addition to the Jedi, a small settlement has been established near the temple, mostly housing the friends and support staff of the Temple, though it has been growing in recent years.

Notable NPC(s)

Satellite Temples

Location: Mikkia
Summary: Located on Mikkia, this Jedi temple is the largest of the three satellite locations, though it is still barely half the size of the Dantooine Temple. Under the supervision of Jadla Kuni, the Mikkian temple focuses on direct action and intervention, sending out Jedi on humanitarian missions on an almost daily basis. Those Jedi who enjoy being in the thick of the action have made Mikkia their home base, their skill sets ranging from mastery of saber forms to some of the best doctors and mechanics the galaxy has seen. As those in the Mikkian temple like to think, it’s not what you can do that matters, it’s how you do it.

Notable NPC(s)

Location: Hosnian Prime
Summary: Tucked away in an alley of the bustling Chikua City on Hosnian Prime, the Jedi temple is unassuming from the outside, appearing to be little more than a small building. However, entering the building reveals that the temple extends down into the city and is much larger than it first appears. The hidden nature of the temple reflects the philosophy of its tenants, who by and large prefer diplomacy and planning rather than immediately jumping into the action. Yin Ke, the head of the temple, always encourages her students to think first and thoroughly before committing to a course.

Notable NPC(s)

Location: Ambria
Summary: The smallest of the satellite temples is located on the desert world of Ambria. Seemingly unassuming, the location was chosen for the strong presence of the Force on the planet. Indeed, the leader of the temple, Stellan Akros, had spent some years here hiding from the Jedi Purge. Now, he leads a small group dedicated to meditation and research into the Force and the history of the planet they now call home.

Notable NPC(s)

Service Corps

Alongside all of this the new Order needs as much help as it can get, and as such within the Order is a subgroup named after a purported similar organization from the surviving records; the Service Corps. The Service Corps is a mostly volunteer based organization made of non-force sensitives who wish to help the Jedi Order in whatever way they can and Jedi who have elected to completely eschew violence for pacifism and nonviolence. In its current state, the Corps is mostly managed by Jedi and a few long-standing non-force sensitive correspondents of the order.

Population

Currently, there are approximately 300 knights and padawans within the order along with many more initiates and younglings who are currently coming into their own.  With the majority of the Jedi staying on Dantooine followed by Mikkia in population  then Hosnian Prime and Ambria respectively.

Relations

New Republic

While some in the New Republic were disappointed the Order was not reformed under the New Republic, most understood why it had to be that way. Regardless, Luke is still a major war hero, and most in the New Republic admire the Jedi at the very least. On the Jedi’s end, many are from the New Republic themselves and Luke himself is outright friends with many in high positions in the New Republic

Imperial Remnants

The lack of internal unity in what remains of the Empire means the only consistency in the relationship between the Empire and the Jedi Order is inconsistency. Because the Jedi Order is run by hero of the Republic, Luke Skywalker, the Empire’s “official” policy is to deny the Jedi entry to Imperial space, but only to the degree of expulsion. Given the aforementioned lack of internal unity, this means any response is possible. The only real rules are friends can’t openly be too friendly, and enemies can’t openly be too aggressive.

Imperial Knights

The Jedi and Imperial Knights are technically neutral to each other. In reality it is complicated. Currently, the Imperial Knights vastly outnumber the Jedi for a number of reasons; including better material compensation, more aggressive recruitment campaigns, and in some cases, forced impressment. Furthermore, the Imperial Knight leadership are Imperial loyalists and Luke is famously a hero of the Rebellion. Of note, Imperial Knights have attacked as well as even slain Jedi before.

On the other hand, some Imperial Knights are former Jedi and some Jedi are former Imperial Knights, so there are some feelings of comradery across the two factions. Also, just as the Remnant is of mixed relation to the Order, so are the different Knight Chapters. The only hard rule is if the Jedi are in Imperial space, the Jedi have to leave. The amount of leeway in that means almost anything goes. This unpredictability  to the relationship makes any excursion into Imperial space a risky proposition.

Independent Systems
Independent Systems are too diverse to summarize any type of relationship. That being said, thanks to the Jedi’s prestige and respect, many systems have relied on the Jedi to get acknowledgments from the larger galactic powers. Thus, to many of the people who live on Independent worlds, the Jedi are often seen as the champions of people like them. This has made the Jedi quite the celebrities among Independent systems.
