Backstory
Born on the planet Rodia in 52BBY, Avak Reeven was sociable from the very start of his life, being popular amongst both his peers and adults as he learned how to make friends, get people to like him, and most importantly, how to figure out what people wanted. It clicked for Avak that if he could figure out what people wanted and then how to get it, he could make just about anyone his friend.
Thanks to this outlook, politics appealed to Avak even at a young age, and he quickly got involved in his local elections once he was old enough, and then made friends amongst those higher up the food chain. He realised that while there was power in the elected candidate, of course, the real power was vested in the advisors who told them the best course of action. This was what Avak wanted; to make friends, dupe opponents and use his wits and personal magnetism to achieve victory.
His ambition, drive and natural talent earned him a reputation as a spin doctor, enough that he was approached by a growing faction in Rodian politics that opposed the Senator Onaconda Farr and his desire for peace. Rodians were warriors, they argued, and they should welcome the chance to show it. While Avak was suspicious of some in the group, especially a younger Navik of Clan Chattza, he agreed to represent their interests in the Republic Senate, for a sizeable sum.
Spending the next few years of his life on Coruscant, Avak worked behind the scenes to hurt Farr's motions, further the cause of the Clone Wars and make allies for himself along the way. He continued as his usual, ambitious self, until the day that Senator Farr was murdered. He'd heard of conflict in politics, of course, and knew of war in theory, but it had never hit so close before, actually killing someone in his circle, even if he worked against them. Suddenly, it all seemed so pointless, but before he could even begin to try and undo the machinations he had been just a small part of, the war was over, and the Republic with it.
Avak at first returned to Rodia, but disappeared from the planet shortly before Navik named himself Grand Protector. He lived in exile, the excessive amount of credits he made only adding to his guilt. He spent them drowning his sorrows in whatever could help him forget what he'd been party to, but he could never forget it all, and certainly not Farr. Even if he hadn't been party to it, he felt responsible, like he needed to atone. The way he was able to do that was once he heard the news about the Rebel Alliance, through old friends. When war broke out, this time, he tried to save lives.
He would act as a diplomat for the Alliance, convincing worlds to come into their side, negotiating with imperial officers to stand down and otherwise preventing conflict across the galaxy. After the war, Avak continued to work with the New Republic as a diplomat and respected politician, having the chance to meet and work with Luke Skywalker. It was after those years of service that Luke approached him, telling him of his own force sensitivity and offering for him to help bring about a new Jedi Order. Seeing a way he could reach people all over the galaxy and prevent conflict, Avak could only accept.
Appearence
73, Male, Rodian. Avak is always well dressed and well kept, seemingly keeping up with current fashion trends. Despite his age, the Jedi Master still doesn't look older than his mid-30s, which he puts down to a good diet and time in the sun, and perhaps a bit of help from the Force.
