Sestri Amena (PC)

Padawan
  1. Please provide a brief (at least one short paragraph) backstory for your character.
Sestri was born in a refugee camp on Mirial. Her parents had just lived through one of the worst storms imaginable. She was named for her Grandmother who had been lost in the storm along with their family home. They had nothing but the clothes on their backs and a little tent a Rebellion associated NGO had assigned them to. She grew up there. While her parents worked and saved money to participate in the resettlement campaign she played and heard stories of the mythical Rebel Alliance and their struggle with the Empire that oppressed her people. Picturing herself alongside heros like Leia Organa, Luke Skywalker, Wedge Antilles. Flying X-wings through the stars.

She was seven when the Second Death Star was destroyed at the Battle of Endor. Fireworks lit up the sky. The empire tried to put a stop to it. A brutal repression campaign commenced. Tear gas started a fire that consumed half of the camp. Sestri's father was arrested and hauled off to a camp of dissidents. She and her mother managed to escape. Finding shelter within a local Rebel Sector Force's base. To distract her from the turmoil of her father being forced to work in a mine Sestris mother enrolled her in the Sector Forces junior cadets program. She spent her days going to the small school there and the afternoons she would either clean or spend time in the simulators when she got a chance. The pilot of Grey squadron even took a liking to her after some time. Teaching her the odd bit and trick.

The wars frontline came to Mirial when Sistri was eleven. The Empire put up stiff resistance and many of Grey Squadrons pilots she had come to know as her friends paid the ultimate price. But it was not in vain. Mirial was free, and her father was rescued. Her family was resettled into a small town, and for the first time in her life Sestri lived in what could be called a house. It felt odd to her. She enrolled in school, and spent most of that time knowing what she wanted to do as she starred up at the stars.

When she finally graduated from school she spent a night partying with her peers and was at the New Republic Militaries recruitment office the next day. The war had been over for over 5 years at this point, but that didn't matter to Sestri. She wanted to fly, and they would pay her, teach her, and give her a craft to do it. It took a few years for her to get up to what the New Republic considered passible. But it had been worth it. Sestri was assigned to a Squadron and given an A-wing. It wasn't the most exciting posting. Patrols on fringe systems. Short encounters with Pirates and Smugglers. But she was flying and that made her happy enough.

Sestri came to the attention of the Jedi by chance. A group of Pirates had accidentally kidnapped a number of Jedi Younglings. Sestri and her wingman Perce were the first to find the Pirate and managed to force them to land on a remote world. Perce contacted the force searching while Sestri landed to keep track of the pirate. They had left into the forest and taken the children with them. Sestri, trusting her instincts, found the pirate in a cave and cornered them just as a hand stretched past her and the pirates blaster flew into it. She soon learned after this incident that she was force sensitive and could be trained to be a Jedi. Hearing that she could become like her childhood heros Sestri has jumped at the chance, resigning from the New Republic Military and commiting herself to learning the ways of the Jedi.

  2. Why does your character want to be a jedi? Are you kidding? This is her dream! Luke Skywalker is her hero!

  3. Are there aspects of your character’s background (people, events, places) that were more formative to your character’s current personal development?  I think one of the more important events she experienced was shortly after the destruction of the second death star. That was when what had been her world went up in smoke. It was a very traumatic time and she lost friends in addition to losing her father to imperial custody for five years. She grew up on the edges of Mirialan society. Her region of the world racked by storms and had resources siphoned away from it by an indifferent empire. Worse that same empire burned almost all that she had known to the ground. Her time in the cadets nurtured her interest in flying that had been born of days spent with other children playing imaginary games of Tie Fighter vs X-wing in the refugee camp.

Sestri has spent the last few years of her life amongst her squadron mates. Perpetually one the newer faces in a slow churning roster she had found a place there. With a few buddies like her wingman Perce Itron, or flight leader Maxie "Tabby" Beckridge spending significant time with her as their squadron went rotation after rotation on duty. They would go on trips together, see concerts, camping. It's actually been rather nice.

  4. Describe the kinds of personal relationships you might have had in your past? Sestri has made friends with her peers in the past, but has lost touch with many of them as they went their separate ways in life. She still hears about a few that started families but never knew anyone that closely. Sestri hasn't really had much of an outlet for her hatred of the Empire. The war has been over for a while and while it's there beneath the surface time has started to temper it.

  5. What is most Jedi-like about your character?  What is least Jedi-like about your character? Sestri is a brave individual. Not many are willing to face down an enemy, even fewer are willing to do so in a starfighter weaving through obstacles. Her courage even when she is afraid is unquestionable. That same courage though can bring out her temper. She is hot blooded and if she can't take a problem head on it will frustrate her to the point of rage.

  6. Does your character have a strong idea of the Force? Do they experience it in a certain way or is it a mystery to them? This is a mystery to her. She knows being able to use it means you can be a Jedi, and that's got her excited.

  7. Some characters have dark (or great) secrets that they keep locked away from even their dearest friends. Does your character harbor a great regret or a secret aspiration that is central to their character?  No. They want to be a Jedi. She's not keeping that a secret.

  8. What elements of your character are you most excited to explore, whether narrative or mechanical? I will answer in three parts firstly I enjoy the story of the growth of the novice. Secondly part of being a Jedi is being a diplomat. A peacekeeper. Suffice to say Sestri has some serious bones to grind with the Empire and is ironically more likely to encounter them doing this than her old job. Finally I am excited to play a piloting focused character. It's a neat part of the system.

  9. Does your character have a long-term plan, mechanically? Not right now really. I wanted to make a pilot into a force emergent character, part two isn't really there yet.

  10. The Dark Side tempts each Jedi differently. How does it prey upon your character's emotional weakness and what makes them susceptible to it? Sestri doesn't have any control yet. Her emotions are not tempered, and she is susceptible to let her anger take hold. In a stressful situation where she is feeling it she will dip into that rage. Let it fuel her.

  11. Would you rather start your character as an Initiate or as a Padawan? Initiate.
