Darro Khensa (PC)

Padawan
  1. Please provide a brief (at least one short paragraph) backstory for your character.
Having been orphaned at a young age, Darro doesn't know much of his birth parents, outside of the obvious fact that they were Kessurian. There was every chance he would've grown up as just another child in an orphanage in the Core Worlds were it not for a meeting that changed his life forever. Having started to show evidence of his Force Sensitivity, unbeknownst to Darro, his powers had drawn attention from visitors. Force Sensitives who had gotten to known one another as members of the Hidden Path, Khara Tersil and Selvanie Tesha had learned how to detect people with similar abilities and how to go unnoticed. Drawn to Darro through the Force and unable to have a biological child of their own, the two women agreed to take young Darro with them to Dantooine where they aimed to live in peace. As fate would have it, the decision also caused all three to cross the path of Luke Skywalker. Hoping to more good work and for a bright future for their son, Khara and Selvanie agreed to help restablish the Jedi Order and allowed Darro to be one of the first child students.

Darro was effectively raised within the Jedi Order from about as early as he can really remember, knowing very little of life outside it's structures. That's not to say he doesn't know of life in the rest of the galaxy, but Darro's perspective is largely one grown from within. As soon as he was able he began to learn the ways of the Force, watching the nascent Order grow along with him. Learning from Luke Skywalker and the other Masters and Knights as they were gathered, he gradually went from being one of the only children at the temple to being one of many as some were sent to learn the ways of the Force by their families or were taken in as orphans like himself, finding a great deal of joy in having peers of his own. He displayed a strong affinity for the Force, especially the gift of Foresight, and a passion for his studies that saw him progress through is training steadily over the years. Now a young man, he has proved himself capable through the final tests of being an initiate and has recently been granted the rank of Padawan, accepted by Knight Cade Holden to be his student.

He now stands ready and eager to show the Order what he is capable of with his eyes set on becoming a fully fledged Jedi Knight.

  2. Why does your character want to be a jedi? For the most part, Darro wants to become a Jedi because it is effectively all he has ever known. He grew up learning of the Order's mission in serving as guardians of light and life in the galaxy, something that he has made a core part of his personal beliefs. He has always thought that becoming a Jedi was a certainty for him because of his talents, not really understanding how there could be any other options. As far as Darro is concerned, the abilities and talents he was born with means it is calling to become a Jedi and to protect those in need.

  3. Are there aspects of your character’s background (people, events, places) that were more formative to your character’s current personal development?  Having grown up within the Order from its earliest days, Darro perhaps has an overly familiar view with the veteran Knights and Masters that make up the Order's highest echelons. This isn't to say he doesn't respect them, however. Rather, Darro sees the Jedi community as his family and many of his 'superiors' more as kindly and wise aunts and uncles rather than as formal figures. Even those who would be considered 'legends' by most of the galaxy, people like Luke Skywalker or the Solos, are not mythical figures to him but kindly people he grew up seeing often around the temple grounds on Dantooine. This has, of course, gotten him into trouble before when in situations that call for a bit more rigid propriety.

Beyond that, however, Darro does have a real family. For all intents-and-purposes, Khara Tersil and Selvanie Tesha are Darro's parents, the two women having decided to raise Darro as their own shortly before joining the nascent Order. Such a situation has caused awkwardness over the course of his life, especially with other Jedi children given that both of his parents were also becoming Jedi themselves, but Darro has never openly let himself be bothered by accusations of 'favoritism'. He has learned much about the galaxy from the two women and has taken a great deal of comfort from their care, even if he does find it embarrassing at times. Still, Darro finds joy in the pride the two have for him as he begins the next stage of his Jedi journey as he does in showing off for his younger adopted sister, a Chagrian named Orsa who is also learning to become a Jedi herself.

  4. Describe the kinds of personal relationships you might have had in your past? Darro is, for the most part, a kind and affable young man and considers all of his fellow Jedi to be his friends. Of course his closest relationships are with his parents and younger sister. In general, most of his real relationships are held within the Order though he is eager to expand outward.

  5. What is most Jedi-like about your character?  What is least Jedi-like about your character? Darro’s most Jedi-like attribute is his genuine desire to help the galaxy. Having grown up hearing of the Order’s mission from his earliest years, he is a true believer in his role as a guardian of peace and justice. He truly believes it is his duty to stop evil and to help those in need to the point of a tendency towards being overly selfless and naive.

The flipside of this is that Darro has a tendency to come across as prideful and arrogant at times. He believes in himself and his ability to be a true hero, that it is only a matter of time until he has accomplishments that match the greats like Luke Skywalker. He believes in his own destiny and his natural talent with Foresight has only made him more confident in his future, even if it blind him to other dangers and potentialities.

  6. Does your character have a strong idea of the Force? Do they experience it in a certain way or is it a mystery to them? Darro perhaps has a more practical view of the Force. Having been raised, more or less, with an understanding of what it is and how to use it, he can sometimes disregard the more spiritual and mystical aspects and rely on it as just another tool in his arsenal. This seeming casualness also extends into his habit of trying to peer into the future, with a habit of fully trusting in his visions rather than fully embracing that the future is always in motion.

  7. Some characters have dark (or great) secrets that they keep locked away from even their dearest friends. Does your character harbor a great regret or a secret aspiration that is central to their character? Not at this time.

  8. What elements of your character are you most excited to explore, whether narrative or mechanical? For me, I think the biggest/most exciting challenge will be leaning into the use of Foresight. I want to make that ability a central part of Darro’s character, something that can occur involuntarily at times. I want to lean into those visions narratively and see how they can drive the character for good or for ill and see what opportunities arise around it.

  9. Does your character have a long-term plan, mechanically? Not particularly. The trees I’m envisioning are Shien, Sentry, and perhaps Padawan to round things out a bit. Foresight will be the major force power I spend on but I will still think of others as things go along.

  10. The Dark Side tempts each Jedi differently. How does it prey upon your character's emotional weakness and what makes them susceptible to it? I think there are a couple of factors at play here. Darro is clearly very confident in himself, his own abilities, and his own destiny. He believes that the Jedi are on the side of right and good and that he is a chosen inheritor of the Order’s legacy. Because of this, he has a tendency towards overconfidence and struggles when results do not match those expectations, especially if people have a negative view of the Order. He also has a tendency to believe in the visions he obtains via the Force, to the point of near obsession.

  11. Would you rather start your character as an Initiate or as a Padawan? I would like Darro to start as a Padawan.
