Nojin Hu (Mentor)

Jedi Knight
“A better world waits for those who are willing to fight for it.”
Backstory

Nojin Hu spent most of his adolescence as a gangster on Coruscant. He saw the darkest pits of the underbelly of the galaxy, and from the moment he knew to look up he knew he wanted out. He took his chances with Coruscant Security, working to take down the very gangs he used to be a part of. His willingness to lead from the front and take charge when things looked dire led to him rising through the ranks rapidly, eventually capturing the attention of a New Republic task force. It was a chance for him to hit the disease instead of the symptom, to push back not just against low level street gangs but against the major syndicates.

It was a chance that Nojin grabbed with both hands. For years he served on the task force, eventually rising to the levels of one of the major leaders of it. He worked closely with military forces, local law enforcement, politicians, business owners, even corporations, trying to get everyone to see that a galaxy without the criminal syndicates was one that they should be working towards. It was during this time that he first began to interact with the Jedi, sometimes bumping into them on active investigations and becoming temporary allies. This was also when Nojin met his to-be wife Yula, also a member of the New Republic, though she worked as a logistics coordinator.

During one such moment, he came face to face with Yin Ke. She’d heard from her Jedi of his skills and had wanted to see this Mikkian for herself, confirming almost instantly that he had a talent with the Force that he’d been using unconsciously. She offered him a chance to join the Jedi and to put his talents and experiences as a leader to the truest test of all: helping the galaxy in a way that only the Jedi could.

Nojin reflected on the task force and his place in it, all the good he’d done and how much he could still do. There were other equally competent members of the NR who could continue on his work here, but a chance to do what only he could? The former Coruscanti street kid couldn’t turn it down.

He’s been at the Temple for a few years now, learning the ways of the Jedi and proving his own experience and value. He keeps in contact with people from his New Republic days, his old habit of always keeping an ear to the ground still going strong even in his new role. It’s proved helpful more than once, smoothing over any differences between the NR and the Jedi and keeping both groups happy.

Appearence

Nojin is a mid-30s Mikkian man with pale colored skin and light blue tendrils. In recent years as he’s reconnected with his Mikkian heritage, he’s taken to wearing more traditional Mikkian clothing. Nojin is happily married to a woman named Yula who he met during his time with the New Republic. They have a four year old son named Kaze who learns at the Temple.

Personality

Nojin is generally a serious and straightforward man, though he has a razor sharp and dry wit that he’s not afraid to use. He’s tremendously driven, to the point of sometimes being stubborn, and like a dog with a bone when he sets his sights on something, he doesn’t let go. He believes that people are shaped by the decisions they make, not the circumstances they come from. He has an odd combination of being understanding of making bad decisions in a bad situation, but also has little mercy for those who choose to embrace darkness even when an alternative is offered.

Skillset & Role

Nojin is not afraid to engage in direct action and will often take a battlefield commander style role on missions. His experiences give him a wealth of tactical experience, and no small amount of diplomatic skill as well. He’s adept at finding compromises between different groups, and often finds himself sent as a diplomat who’s not afraid to speak up and call out those in positions of power. He knows how to use a lightsaber decently well but feels that nothing will ever beat his trusty blaster.
