Laszlo (PC)

Padawan
  1. Please provide a brief (at least one short paragraph) backstory for your character.
Laszlo is a Nelvaanian Male from the world of his species namesake, Nelvaan. He grew up in a small village and enjoyed a fairly average and chilly life amongst his fellow tribemates and siblings. While out learning to hunt with a small group of other Hunters (4), Laszlo and his fellow Hunters were attacked and forcibly taken by Droids. They were taken to a Lab site on one of Nelvaan’s three moons and put into the tender care of one Alyn Satyev, an Arkanian Scientist keen to study the effects of the mutations that were forced onto the natives. Alyn's goals with later-generation Nelvaanian's who inherited the genetic augments were to study them, experiment on them and overall run tests for their own reasons. Laszlo however while held in a Bacta Tank in a form of Stasis, subconsciously reached out to a passing Jedi, Knight Noca Muss as a strange manifestation of the Force. Likely through the help of The Great Mother as Laszlo would reason. Knight Noca Muss managed to track the young man down to the Science Lab on the moon and rescued the boy. The Scientist, Alyn Satyev slipped free of the base and has been keeping a low profile ever since.

With all that he had undergone, the trauma and being a now awakened force sensitive, the Jedi took Laslzo back to the Order with them to recover and learn. It was decided that with his awakening in the Force and what he had gone through would make him more of a danger if left untrained. With permission from his village Chief and parents, Laszlo was handed into the care of the Order to recover and grow.Laszlo has spent the last three years in the Order, mostly learning how to read and write in Basic and Bothese, the basics of the Force and other aspects of someone going from a low-tech society to joining the galaxy as a whole.

  2. Why does your character want to be a jedi? Joining the Jedi Order and becoming a Knight would be an incredible milestone for a member of the Nelvaan Species. Considering what the old Order had done during the Clone Wars, the societal aspect alone would be enough encouragement. However, the more personal reason for Laszlo is due to his debt to the Jedi who rescued him. This is a new path, an unknown path, and while he wants to return home at some point. He must learn more of himself before he does. His time spent in the science labs has given Laszlo issues with medical practitioners as a whole and entering medbays. He has gotten violent when pressed to enter the bay and getting various procedures done is risky business unless he is calmed about it or distracted. This fear means that he does not undergo anaesthesia if he can help it and will endure the pain instead.

Beyond that, his time with the Order has been a challenge for him. From having to learn how to write and read to interacting with new technology and concepts. It's been a radical time of exploration,, growth, frustration and more. With Laszlo finding all the small things most sentients in the Galaxy take for granted to be truly fascinating. His innocence and inexperience does make him a target for pranks. . He has only recently been made to Padawan to give him some desperately needed experience in the Galaxy at large. His mentor being Knight Dharg. The happiest Cathar in the Enclave.

  3. Are there aspects of your character’s background (people, events, places) that were more formative to your character’s current personal development?  The Lab Base on Nelvaaan’s Moons and the Arkanian Scientist Alyn Satyev were pretty big impacts to his life, going from a low-tech tribal to a science experiment to Jedi Potential. There’s allot to cover in that and the potential for interesting nuance in the intentions behind it all. Were they purely evil or perhaps something more? Perhaps Alyn truly had good intentions despite the moral issues of experimentation on another. Working to the adage the needs of the many over the needs of the one? He’s a low-tech tribal out of his depth in a galaxy far larger than he ever thought. Even as his people have had contact with outsiders and space-faring civilizations like Bothan Miners, the Old and High Republic, Sith and more, they have remained a low-tech society living in the way they have always have.

  4. Describe the kinds of personal relationships you might have had in your past? His Parents, Mother and Father, along with his older and younger siblings. Alyn Satyev is someone he considers to be a Nemesis, someone he seeks to get revenge on.

  5. What is most Jedi-like about your character?  What is least Jedi-like about your character? The most Jedi like: His curiosity, about the Galaxy as a whole, the Force and himself. The Least Jedi like: His willingness to escalate a fight if someone is looking to pick one. His somewhat unfortunate naivete and degree of innocence.

  6. Does your character have a strong idea of the Force? Do they experience it in a certain way or is it a mystery to them? For him, The force is many great spirits, from the spirits of various worlds being their own great Mothers (Much like the Nelvaan's own). It is a duality like a Fire and ice where both are capable of good and bad. Fire, being warm and welcoming but if left unchecked could devour all in its path. Ice can be soothing, cooling, and preserving but if left too long can freeze you. Respect its duality.

  7. Some characters have dark (or great) secrets that they keep locked away from even their dearest friends. Does your character harbor a great regret or a secret aspiration that is central to their character? He seeks revenge against the one who took him from his family and used him as a Lab Rat. There’s a deep-seated rage there that should be dealt with. The experiments left him with an implant in his body, its function is unknown.

  8. What elements of your character are you most excited to explore, whether narrative or mechanical? I am excited to explore someone who is opening up to a Galaxy at large, technology, droids and all that mystic stuff that you don’t see on a homeworld of low-tech individuals who have had contact with more advanced individuals. Not to mention the awkwardness of someone interacting with new cultures.A spiritual element will be interesting to explore. His phobia of medical practitioners and most things ‘Doctor’ should be fun! As will be the slow overcoming of such a fear.

  9. Does your character have a long-term plan, mechanically? While starting out in Hunter, I plan that Laszlo will be leaning heavily into Niman Disciple and potentially Arbiter or another suitable specialization. Force Powers I am unsure of, Sense and Move at the very least!

  10. The Dark Side tempts each Jedi differently. How does it prey upon your character's emotional weakness and what makes them susceptible to it? Bonit has little patience for those who have not spent much time on a subject and will dismiss their opinions. As such, once she has invested the time to figure out something, she is nearly impossible to change her opinion on a topic without an appeal to authority, preferably deleivered by said authority.

  11. Would you rather start your character as an Initiate or as a Padawan? I’d like him to start as a Padawan, to which Master / Knight, I will leave to the GM team. It will influence some of his traits as he develops though! I have gone with Dharg Raxos.
