Garre Atreg

Jedi Knight

“In the right hands, anything is a tool. How it’s used tends to be more important than the tool itself.”

Backstory

Garre grew up on Radnor, living with just his mother on the outskirts of the capital city of Guile. Often having to fend for himself, he developed a hard exterior to keep himself and his mother safe from some of the criminal syndicates that had taken hold of the city. Subconsciously employing the Force to bolster his menacing aura, he often found that the fear of him alone was enough to deter most threats he encountered, relying on it to get through the day to day. His imposing demeanor caught the attention of one of the criminal syndicates, where he was approached with a job offer as an enforcer. Garre immediately declined, resulting in more activity around his home. He realized if he didn’t do something, his mother could potentially be on the line, so he did the only thing he could do: he enlisted in the local Imperial Academy.

Working his way up the ranks, Garre showed talent in the realm of interrogation. Using the fear of his subjects as a way to extract information, he impressed his superiors in one way specifically: Garre never actually hurt or threatened his subjects. Rather, he employed subtle changes in body language and a calm demeanor, shifting ever so slightly as he snuffed out weak points in the minds of his targets, and ever so gently pressed them until they broke. He was a top performer amongst his peers, the Officers he reported to sending recommendations up the ladder for Officer School.

The reports on Garre caught the attention of Dorla Koga, who recently became the Knight Commander of the Rimward Pact Imperial Knights and was looking for Force Sensitives to fill up the ranks of his newly established Chapter. Suspecting Garre to be Force Sensitive, Dorla made a point to see Garre in person, confirming his suspicions as he watched Garre dismantle his target and get a confession in minutes, where someone else might’ve taken half an hour. Dorla approached Garre with an offer: Move to Christophsis to cultivate this ability, to have an impact on the galaxy that goes above his station. He accepted on the condition that his mother was taken care of, and wanted for nothing. He was taken to Christophsis, where he became one of the first Imperial Knights in the sector, honing his talent as an interrogator. He didn’t stay long, though- after witnessing the actions of some of the other Knights from Bastion, he made the request to Dorla himself to aid in the transfer to the Jedi Order. He wanted to enact change, but not in the way the other factions of the Knights seemed to want to do. Dorla knew the risk of helping an Imperial Knight betray the order of them at large, but could already tell that regardless of his intervention, Garre wasn’t going to last long with them. Pulling strings among those he met while under the banner of the Jedi, Garre was given covert and safe passage to Dantooine.

Padawan to Luke, he was instrumental in deconstructing the hard exterior, and cultivated his ability in the Force. It was no secret to all who met Garre that his time and effort cultivating his specific abilities had taken its toll- there was a darkness to him that he seemed not to notice. Garre’s choice to focus on the manipulation of fear, combined with delving into the mind of his target to pick apart their mental defense as a tool sent ripples through the Order but as he was allowed to work, he proved himself to still align with the Order’s values, as he made sure that his methods did not actively harm the target or have lasting effects. Walking such an astronomically fine line resulted in increased monitorization, especially from Ulwarfhov, who vocally disapproved of his study and training. He was required to attend guided meditation until he was strong enough in the Force and well versed in Jedi ways, to which he continued on his own. Garre was not a familiar face to those who were new to the Order, only recently being allowed to interact with students as he had been cleared extensively by Luke, Ulwarfhov, Stellan, and Tra’seya. His success brought a new perspective to the Order, with Garre as its main teacher. Garre now has a method he stands by that allows himself to remain firmly in the Light as he delves into these deeper and darker territories of the Force, “dissecting the Dark from the tool”, as he calls it. He no longer isolates himself in meditation, but rather, everything is meditation. He finds the Force and speaks to it constantly, even casually. Often when he partakes in the menial tasks the temple demands, he can be heard talking to it, though some have misinterpreted him as talking to himself. He engages in many cultural celebrations, finding the Light in the joy. He organizes rec time for younglings and his peers, finding the Light in their development and their mirth. The catch? He does not do anything without intention, he can’t afford to. The Dark side is waiting for him to slip, and as often as he stares it in the face, being ever-vigilant of his actions and what he allows into his mind is a requirement he cannot afford to let go of.

Appearence
30, Male, Besalisk, only known family is his mother. Blue skin, slightly above average physique, yellow eyes, darker orange robes.
Personality
Coming from a military background, there’s a hardened aura to Garre. He’s generally nice, speaks in a low melodious tone. He loves to chat with students about the Order’s policies and will fiercely defend the Order’s principles while encouraging them to challenge them, as “it’s the only way to ensure we’re doing what we say we’re doing.” One of the main organizers of extracurriculars around the Dantooine temple. Garre’s personal philosophy is that apart from the Dark Side, tools are not merely hydrospanners or wrenches. Anything that is used to accomplish a goal is a tool, whether it be a diplomat’s skill set or a bandaid for a cut. Even some of the more taboo methods are seen as fair game to him, focusing more on the use and intent of the tool rather than the tool itself.
Skillset & Role

Garre is most likely to be brought on sessions dealing with a VIP or imposing faction. He’s a master interrogator and excellent manipulator, and has no problem teaching students how to do what he does. He’s a competent combatant, but his main focus is on social manipulation, and thrives most in social settings. He exists to provide a new perspective of the use of Coercion, one that intentionally distances itself from the “bully” behavior the skill tends to project.
