Felix Tri'Kronn (PC)

Padawan
  1. Please provide a brief (at least one short paragraph) backstory for your character.
Felix grew up as the unwanted extra child of a Corellian crime family. He was mostly left to his own devices, but the family name kept him out of trouble. He ran the streets, and in return the streets taught him their secrets. He discovered he could learn a lot by waiting and watching. He also learned the tricks of a pickpocket. He never needed money, it was never about that. Honestly he didn't really know what it was about, he just wanted things that he saw so he took them.

On one such pilfering occasion he and his crew got lost in a part of Coronet City they didn't know on the run from the cops. Despite being lost and short on time, Felix led his crew with the confidence he hadn't earned. It wasn't him though, it was like the city itself was guiding him away from his pursuers. It was the first time he had fallen upon the Force for guidance, though he didn't know it at the time. Eventually he started feeling the flow of the city in a way that couldn't be explained by normal means, but with nobody close to talk to about it he kept this advantage up his sleeve. That didn't last though as even the Force has limits and everyone's luck runs dry.

He would have taken the secret to the grave but for the incident that eventually led him to joining the Jedi Order. He never meant for it to happen, never meant for any of it to happen but once the chain of events had started the waves of fate carried him through. Felix was hanging around the local shops with one of his crew, Brade, just a kid left to fend for himself on the streets. He was always the kid brother Felix never had, and like a good big brother he was always getting the kid to do things he shouldn’t. This time it was tagging the back of a food speeder, mid flight. Didn’t turn out well when the cops showed up and decided to make an example of Brade. Juvie wasn’t the worst punishment but it wasn’t kind to first timers and Brade ended up dead after a hazing ritual went too far. Felix lost himself to guilt, guilt that he tried to place on the other kids, on the cop, on society itself, but somewhere inside he laid the greatest share on himself. He tried to alleviate that guilt by finding justice, and with the kids behind bars and society too big an enemy, he locked in on the cop that made the arrest.

A smarter kid might have waited for a proper moment to confront him, but Felix was never that smart. He saw the officer on the job, walked right up to him and punched him in the face. Punch is maybe underselling it and his fist shattered the man’s jaw and he dropped to the ground. Felix wasn’t done and grabbed a chunk of concrete from the street and jumped the man, pummeling him over and over in a fit of righteous rage. The man would have died if his partner hadn’t showed up. No amount of rage was enough to stop the stun blasts that came his way.

He woke up in an emergency clinic, tied to a gurney opposite the officer he had assaulted, and knew his life was over. But he didn’t care, he deserved it. He had gotten his little brother killed, and nearly became a killer himself. Prison was a fair punishment, though he was wishing for death instead. But his name still carried weight, and his grandfather made a rather hefty donation to the police precinct’s charity fund. This was the last straw as far as his grandfather was concerned. While petty theft and joyriding was easy to cover up and quiet, assaulting an officer strained more relationships than Felix was worth. He brought the boy to his office to give him a chance to defend himself and, failing that, trim up the family tree. During this interrogation his secret came out and his grandfather saw an opportunity. He sent Felix to the Jedi as a gift. That was in 14ABY, and for the last 6 years he has been unlearning some traits and relearning some others.

    Supplementary / Additional Info
Felix was born and raised on Corellia, the fourth son of Annae and Ristoff Tri'Kronn. His paternal grandfather, Lotyl, ran the Tri'Kronn syndicate, distributors of the highest quality death sticks to be found on Corellia. Lotyl has a very traditional set of family values and therefore has little use for a fourth son. Felix was always cared for but only because he shared the name. He was often left to his own devices so while his brothers were learning the family business, Felix was learning the city and its people. He wandered and watched and felt the flow of civilization as if it were one giant organism and he was just a single cell. There was a wholeness and a sense of belonging, but in a distant way. And somewhere in that recognition of oneness, he developed a habit of taking what might not necessarily belong to him.

He wasn't a thief, they were all part of this same organism and you can't steal from yourself, he just took little things that he wanted more than the person that had it. Not expensive things, people always noticed those ones and then he had to explain who he was and that got tedious. But a snack here or a game there, a few credits that sat on a table too long, why leave them. Of course using the family name to get out of trouble eventually caught up to him and, for the first time in years, he was called to his grandfather's office. Lotyl had every intention of exiling Felix from both family and planet but gave him a chance to defend his actions. When Felix explained his revelations of life and some of the strange things that had happened to him, Lotyl made some mental connections between these experiences and the tales he had heard of the Jedi. Seeing an opportunity, he not only kept Felix in the family, but he began to spend more time with the boy. Until eventually he told Felix what he had heard of the Jedi, and his belief that Felix may have the same abilities. He sent Felix to Luke with his blessings and the unspoken expectation that Luke would remember Lotyl should he ever need the Jedi's assistance.

  2. Why does your character want to be a jedi? He didn't at first, his grandfather was pretty open about the fact he was being used as a pawn. But he always had a strong, if skewed, sense of justice, the Jedi's stock in trade. Visiting other places and meeting new people wasn't something he expected when he joined up, but is probably his favorite part.

  3. Are there aspects of your character’s background (people, events, places) that were more formative to your character’s current personal development?  I think the most formative aspect of his backstory was the skewed perception of reality because of his family's name. He could get away with a lot and has a strong sense of self importance because that name protected him from consequences.

  4. Describe the kinds of personal relationships you might have had in your past? Felix never had a close relationship with his family, it wasn't a bad relationship but his father and brothers were usually busy with the family business. He was closest with his mom but not in an exceptional way. His real "family" was a bunch of street rats that he hung out with. They weren't organized enough to be considered a gang, just some hoodlums getting up to trouble. Felix wasn't in charge but given his family name he might as well have been. It wasn't until he joined the Order that he actually trusted anyone fully. He had to learn that relationships weren't transactional and he still struggles with it.

  5. What is most Jedi-like about your character?  What is least Jedi-like about your character? Felix's grandfather gave him a strong sense of protectiveness when it comes to "his people," and as he has spent time with the order he has come to learn that all people are his people. On the other hand of that though, his grandfather runs his syndicate with a firm hand. Loyalty is rewarded but betrayal is dealt with harshly. Felix learned those lessons as well and struggles with mercy when it comes to fieldwork.

  6. Does your character have a strong idea of the Force? Do they experience it in a certain way or is it a mystery to them? Felix understands that the feeling that he is connected to the people around him is the Force, though he is still learning to accept it and use it with intention. It's not a particularly strong feeling yet, but he feels that connection like when two magnets get close. It's slight but gets stronger as he gets closer (in a metaphysical sense) and it can repel or attract.

  7. Some characters have dark (or great) secrets that they keep locked away from even their dearest friends. Does your character harbor a great regret or a secret aspiration that is central to their character? No, he has done some bad things but doesn't hide them.

  8. What elements of your character are you most excited to explore, whether narrative or mechanical? I like to flip expectations on their head, so the thought of a kleptomaniac learning to eschew the material is fun and gives some narrative weight to that task so that it isn't just mechanical benefit. On the other hand I struggle with being the social character. I am loathe to be the first to speak because I want to share the spotlight, so making a more social character will not be without difficulty.

  9. Does your character have a long-term plan, mechanically? Nothing specific, probably take up influence or battle med as he further understands the connection between people. Split priority to 1 part combat, 2 parts social and 2 parts street smarts.

  10. The Dark Side tempts each Jedi differently. How does it prey upon your character's emotional weakness and what makes them susceptible to it? Felix grew up as a citizen above the law, rules are for lesser people. He has a good heart and a want for good, but law and order are not prerequisites for justice. The darkness starts to rise in him when he puts himself above the rules in search of vengeance. "With great power comes great responsibility" turned sour more or less

  11. Would you rather start your character as an Initiate or as a Padawan? Prefer to start as a padawan. Dakshi Savati sounds like a good match for a master. They would have similar methods and goals as to how to proceed through difficulties but the differences in their backgrounds would lead to good conversations.
