This section will cover any major updates to the character's story as the campaign unfolds.
- Please provide a brief (at least one short paragraph) backstory for your character.
Vaith'alen'viro (Thalen) was born into the esteemed Mitth family of the Chiss Ascendancy, destined for a life of discipline, diplomacy, and duty. But even as a child, he felt a strange pull—a call beyond the Ascendancy’s borders to the vast, unknown galaxy. This yearning only grew stronger as he began experiencing visions and an unexplainable connection to life around him, signs of his latent Force sensitivity. Drawn by this unseen force, Thalen left behind his family and the Ascendancy, venturing into the greater galaxy in search of answers. His journey led him to the remote world of Lothal, where he felt an immediate connection to the planet’s energy. In the quiet wilderness, he encountered a Loth-wolf pup, a rare and mystical creature that seemed to sense the same pull within him. The bond they formed was profound, as if fate had tied their destinies together.
It was here that Thalen was discovered by a Jedi Master, a lone seeker of Force-sensitives working to rebuild the Jedi Order under Luke Skywalker. Recognizing Thalen’s potential, the Master took him under their wing, teaching him the ways of the Force and helping him understand his unique abilities. Through his training, Thalen embraced the Jedi philosophy, finding a purpose that resonated with the call he had felt all his life. With Nymeria, his young Loth-wolf companion at his side, he joined Luke’s fledgling Jedi Order, determined to protect the galaxy and prove that even a former exile from the Unknown Regions could become a beacon of hope. Thalen’s journey is far from over, but his heart burns with the conviction that the Force led him to where he was always meant to be. - Why does your character want to be a jedi? Thalen seeks purpose in a galaxy he barely understands, drawn to the Jedi because they represent a path to understanding his purpose, the strange power he feels within and the secrets of the galaxy. While he does not see himself as a traditional Jedi, he believes their ideals align with his desire to protect the galaxy’s vulnerable and uncover the mysteries of the Force.
- Are
there aspects of your character’s background (people, events, places)
that were more formative to your character’s current personal
development? Thalen’s journey to Lothal and his bond with a Loth-wolf pup, Nymeria, were life-changing. The pup became his constant companion, teaching him trust and grounding him emotionally. On Lothal, he was discovered by a Jedi Master who introduced him to the Order. This meeting shaped his view of the Jedi as guides rather than rulers, and it cemented his resolve to follow the Force instead of the cold pragmatism of the Ascendancy.
- Describe the kinds of personal relationships you might have had in your past? Thalen’s upbringing in the Ascendancy was defined by formality and strategy. His relationships were transactional, with allies gained through shared goals and rivals earned through competition. After leaving, he formed deeper bonds with outsiders—those who valued him for his actions, not his lineage. Nymeria his most significant connection, symbolizing trust and loyalty. Enemies, and his noble house from the Ascendancy may still hunt him, seeing his defection as a stain on their honor and wishing to bring him back home.
- What is most Jedi-like about your character? What is least Jedi-like about your character? Most Jedi-like: Thalen is deliberate, and protective, embodying the Jedi desire to be guardians of others. He uses his skills to defend others and relies on the Force for guidance. Least Jedi-like: Thalen isn't comfortable with the lightsaber as a weapon, preferring the precision and familiarity of his rifle. His pragmatic approach to combat that sometimes leads to the death of an opponent sometimes clash with Jedi traditionalism.
- Does your character have a strong idea of the Force? Do they experience it in a certain way or is it a mystery to them? To Thalen, the Force feels like an invisible web connecting all living things—a guide he senses intuitively but does not fully understand. He experiences it as a heightened awareness of the world around him, amplifying his precision as a marksman and deepening his bond with Nyrethi. While he respects the Force, its mysteries intrigue and occasionally frustrate him.
- Some
characters have dark (or great) secrets that they keep locked away from
even their dearest friends. Does your character harbor a great regret
or a secret aspiration that is central to their character? Thalen regrets how he left the Ascendancy—not because he wishes to return but because his departure caused pain to those who once believed in him. His greatest aspiration is not to go back but to prove to himself that he can find meaning in a galaxy beyond the rigid confines of Chiss society.
- What elements of your character are you most excited to explore, whether narrative or mechanical?
Narratively, Thalen’s outsider perspective offers a unique lens through which to view the Jedi and the galaxy. His bond with his Loth-wolf opens opportunities for emotional and mystical storytelling. Mechanically, his focus as a "gun Jedi" allows him to explore combat in unconventional ways, combining Force powers with sniper tactics. The challenge will be balancing his pragmatism with Jedi philosophy.
- Does your character have a long-term plan, mechanically? Thalen plans to specialize in Force abilities that enhance his precision and situational awareness, such as Farsight or Foresight, while focusing on ranged combat expertise. He aims to excel as a sniper and tracker, using Seek and Sense to support his deadly accuracy and tactical acumen.
- The
Dark Side tempts each Jedi differently. How does it prey upon your
character's emotional weakness and what makes them susceptible to it? The Dark Side preys on Thalen’s pragmatism and his belief that the ends can justify the means. It whispers that his rifle can end conflicts faster than diplomacy and that his enemies deserve no mercy. The attachment to his Loth-wolf pup could also make him vulnerable, as fear of losing it may push him toward anger or desperation.
- Would you rather start your character as an Initiate or as a Padawan? Thalen would begin as an Initiate, recently discovered by a Jedi Master on Lothal. This start allows him to grow into the Jedi role while finding his place in the Order as a "gun Jedi" with a unique combat style.
