This section will cover any major updates to the character's story as the campaign unfolds.
- Please provide a brief (at least one short paragraph) backstory for your character.
Soga is a Pkorian who was abandoned by their parents at an early age and fended for herself on Morlana One. She was discovered and taken in by Dark Side cultists who groomed her into an unthinking pupil. She narrowly escaped when they tried to use her in a ritual, and began to realize the nature of what she had been doing. Soga eventually meets Jedi Knight Lavir Madel, and appeals to her to help her atone for what she has done. Soga is deeply regretful of her upbringing and wants to become someone that her younger self - and future orphans of the Force - could benefit from. - Why does your character want to be a jedi? Soga does not understand much about the Jedi, but she knows that they are peacekeepers, and noble Force Users, contrasted with her surrogate family. She sees them as her best option for training her Force Abilities - more importantly, they are the group with the best chance of helping her redeem herself.
- Are
there aspects of your character’s background (people, events, places)
that were more formative to your character’s current personal
development? Soga was raised - at first, unwittingly - by Dark Siders who sought to exploit her powers. This relationship is the core of her guilt and driving action to join the New Jedi Order. She does not (necessarily) wish revenge upon this group, but it was deeply formative in developing her interest in helping protect other vulnerable Force-Sensitive children.
- Describe the kinds of personal relationships you might have had in your past? The only relationships Soga had in the past were with the manipulative acolytes who tried to bring her into the throes of the Dark Side. She was eager to trust, then, with no [known] family of her own and no one willing to be their friend who she did not force to. Now, Soga is eager to trust, not because of gullibility, but rather because she is desperate to accommodate anyone who is willing to associate themselves with her. She is especially careful with sharing details about herself, shameful and terrified that she will be rejected if others learn of her past.
- What is most Jedi-like about your character? What is least Jedi-like about your character? Soga is humble, repentant, hopeful. So too is Soga afraid, anxious, and asocial. She wants so very much to belong to something noble and good, but terrified of doing something wrong, or worse, not being seen as worthy.
- Does your character have a strong idea of the Force? Do they experience it in a certain way or is it a mystery to them? Soga has no intimate relationship with the Force. For her, it is simply something that she has felt an innate connection to since she was a child. It is an enigma that she and others can tap into - no more, no less.
- Some
characters have dark (or great) secrets that they keep locked away from
even their dearest friends. Does your character harbor a great regret
or a secret aspiration that is central to their character? Everything pertaining to Soga's past affiliation with Dark Siders, as previously stated. She also does not want others to know she is an orphan or that she suffered in her childhood.
- What elements of your character are you most excited to explore, whether narrative or mechanical?
While I have played evil characters in campaigns before, I haven't played one that is seeking redemption, or is regretful like Soga is. Playing that attitude is a significant contrast to my JOR character, and something that will probably be a major speed bump as I ease into her voice. I expect her to grow into a social/intellectual character as she grows within the NJO. I'm also excited to lean into the Force Powers of the system, as my previous SWFFG character was almost entirely martial.
- Does your character have a long-term plan, mechanically? Expanding on my previous answer, I would like to build a character who is (mechanically) primarily defined by their ability in the Force. I have some anxiety in this with regard to how my CC build isn't that combat-friendly, but given my experience in JOR, I am confident that the character will eventually develop abilities that will be more applicable to combat. I'm still fairly fresh to the system, though, so any input would be greatly appreciated.
- The
Dark Side tempts each Jedi differently. How does it prey upon your
character's emotional weakness and what makes them susceptible to it? All of Soga's actions are weighed by her fear and disgust of what she did when she was an acolyte. She is constantly wary of whether her actions are bringing her closer to or further from the Dark Side that she is desperate to leave behind her. This constant vigilance makes it easy for Soga to second-guess herself, or to more readily listen to others to act one way or another.
- Would you rather start your character as an Initiate or as a Padawan? I would like to begin Sog as an Initiate - it makes the most sense to me for the story I would like to tell with her.
