- Please provide a brief (at least one short paragraph) backstory for your character.
Born in 2 BBY on Arkania to prominent scientists, Zeprom’s thirst for knowledge began at an early age, not particularly gifted when compared to the bulk of his people. Where he was weak in Zenobiology or 4th Dimensional concepts, he had a head for numbers and pattern recognition. His abilities of visual calculus and placing together datum to form a cohesive image in his mind. He could practically see them in his mind’s eye with uncanny detail. It would be much later in his life that he realized this was a nascent connection to The Force. Finally, something to prove himself within his society and to himself. - Why does your character want to be a jedi? Due to his lack of apparent aptitude amongst his species, he has a desire to prove himself. By becoming a jedi, he can prove his worth not only within Arkanian society, but also to himself.
- Are
there aspects of your character’s background (people, events, places)
that were more formative to your character’s current personal
development? The pressures of Arkanian society and his parents, renowned zenobiologists. It has set a particular standard which he feels he cannot achieve, but also holds others to this hypocritical standard.
- Describe the kinds of personal relationships you might have had in your past? A childhood friend now in the highest academy studying with honors.
- What is most Jedi-like about your character? What is least Jedi-like about your character? His thirst for knowledge is perhaps both the most-and-least Jedi-like quality about his character. Simply put, his pursuit of knowledge and the furthering of it for others is a noble endeavor, however his more cold and analytical side paired with his pursuit and acquisition of knowledge more questionable can be perhaps less suited for a jedi.
- Does your character have a strong idea of the Force? Do they experience it in a certain way or is it a mystery to them? His understanding of the force is a bit limited to him and reflective of a scientific mindset more than a mystical aspect. He seeks to dissect the knowledge and achieve more information like one might look at a specimen under a microscope.
- Some
characters have dark (or great) secrets that they keep locked away from
even their dearest friends. Does your character harbor a great regret
or a secret aspiration that is central to their character? I do not believe he yet has a dark secret, but that is not to say one cannot occur during the have. As for aspiration, he seeks to better understand the Force in ways that can be applied practically rather than the more metaphysical or spiritual side of the matter.
- What elements of your character are you most excited to explore, whether narrative or mechanical? I am excited to explore the interactions of someone who’s never left his homeworld where he felt inadequate to a place with opportunities. Interactions with others to temper his arrogance, and the temptation of knowledge and how tiptoeing the line requires intense focus and is an inherently dangerous endeavor.
- Does your character have a long-term plan, mechanically? I’m unsure about long-term mechanical plans, and I’m a big proponent of strong narrative decisions (aka: character appropriate bad ideas) and going with the flow of the story as it unveils itself.
- The
Dark Side tempts each Jedi differently. How does it prey upon your
character's emotional weakness and what makes them susceptible to it? The want to prove himself, coming from a society centered on merit and accolades, but not reaching the levels of his family, he seeks knowledge out as a way to prove his worth. Ambition and over-confidence can be a potent draw to the dark side if one is not careful.
- Would you rather start your character as an Initiate or as a Padawan? I’d rather have him start as an initiate, I feel having him just arriving for the first time from his world of Arkania works very well narratively as well as will help me get a better feel for the world.
