Virella’s Song is a hidden refuge deep within the ancient forest of Lorethal on Durashan. It does not appear on any map. Those who speak of it do so quietly, as if the forest might close its paths at the sound of its name.

Legends say the Song is a sanctuary of the Verdant Sky, an ancient circle of stewards, botanists, and veil-tenders who guard the balance between life and magic. The canopy here is so dense it blots out the sun. Rivers shimmer with bioluminescent spores, and rare flora bloom in defiance of any charted taxonomy.

Whether it is a place of healing, study, or quiet conspiracy depends on the teller. Those invited find shelter, wisdom, and rites offered nowhere else. Those uninvited never find it at all.

“The forest does not hide. It simply chooses whether you belong.”

Known Details

  • Location: Somewhere within the northern reaches of Lorethal.
  • Terrain: Primeval rainforest, limestone ravines, misted valleys, and hidden veilroot groves.
  • Purpose: Sanctuary for endangered species, research into veil-linked magic, and refuge for Verdant Sky stewards.
  • Access: Reachable only with proper guidance, whether by veil-marked paths, hidden aerial routes, or carefully attuned Wildspace descents.

Finding the Song

No one simply travels to Virella’s Song. They are shown the way. Pilots speak of air currents that shimmer and twist out of sight. Rangers whisper of trails that appear only when the forest approves. A spelljammer could circle overhead for days and see nothing but endless green without invitation.

On arrival, visitors undergo the Unspooling Step. A drifting cloud of veil-threaded spores passes through each traveler, unweaving the path by which they came. It does not remove memory of the visit, nor prevent return to known towns or ports. It only severs the thread that would lead back without guidance.

“You’ll walk out just fine. You’ll sail home just fine. But the way back? That belongs to the forest now.”
