In the third adventure to seek out the mountainous city at the end of a mysterious road, the party was swapped out for a more investigatory approach. En route the Ghost of a bandit accosted the party once more, but was swiftly dispatched by giving it gold, upon which it retired once its last big score was achieved.
At the entry to the massive dungeon, the party investigated the large steam tunnels that ostensibly powered the huge door and the fortress beyond. Eventually it was determined that the easiest way to break in would be via the huge steam tunnels and a section was broken into. A Steam Mephit fled out from the break, ready to accost the party, but was talked down. The group of Mephits that lived within the tunnels informed the party that a many-headed devil was constantly at war with them and that the pipes formed a labyrinth with many other exits.
The party sent in Tarquanu to investigate, and he did not return. Then Veloc 4 went in with incredible speed and mapped out as much as he could, failing to find an exit. Finally, Kodzak found an exit and the talking detached head of a Golem of some kind. The party went inside the steam tunnels, healed from the steam damage on the other side, and learned that there were 3 heads sharing a body completing the admin and maintenance work on the tunnel. They also learned that the Dwarves built the great fortress as a mine, then a bank, then it was taken over by Elves as a prison. But even the Elves had not revisited in several hundred years at least. Before the party was able to continue, they decided to recall and regroup.
