Short summary:
After getting smacked around by a Frost Troll (in the quest An Icy Target), and having one of their comrades die, Jirel Flyr and Zinlynndise Imare regroup, and set out on a mission to explore the northern coast. There's quicksand, Draugr who are being puppeteered by a mysterious voice, and a mysterious cove with a Basilisk in it. Jirel runs circles around it, pelting it with arrows until the dangerous lizard is dead. The group then proceeds to murder some Cockatrices elsewhere to finish the scouting operation.

Okay, chums. You know the drill by now: sit down, shut up, marvel at my fucking heroics. This time we’re with a brand new crew, and I think (shock of shocks) that at least -some- of them had a lick of sense to split between them. Well, at least when one of ‘em isn’t falling into blasted quicksand like a regular numpty. Anywhat, we finally reached the coast, and let me tell you it was a sight for sore eyes. The salt in the air brought back memories, and not all of them were fucking terrible.
Speaking of fucking terrible, the ocean decides to rain on my little nostalgic romp and shits out a bunch of Draugr. Those fuckers what drowned and came back, savvy? They’ve a hankering for bringin’ folk to their watery grave with ‘em. Easy enough to put down if you can stand the stench long enough to get a good hit in.
So’s the Draugr are put to beddy-byes, and we’re standin there looking at a huuuuge fuckoff rock. Bunch of ‘em. Fine place for a lighthouse, or a fortress, or somethin’ substantial. Can’t get up there easily, though, so bring some serious climbing gear if you head that way.
Next up is the damned cave. I’m told it were a Basilisk we killed, but all I know is that it was a big fuckoff lizard that spat acid at us. Behind it was a door in the wall that gave me chills. Didn’t want to fuck with that shit. So off we pop, onto the next grand adventure.
Last spot we end up at is a cave with some weird fuckin’ chickens in it. Again, the brains trust tells me they’re Cockatrices. They didn’t live long enough to show how dangerous they were, but clearly not that dangerous, eh?
The next part of the report is written mostly by Zinlynndise Imare.
Hello! Greetings. Friendly Human Elf Druid! Well, that sounds awful in Common, but if you know, ya know, you know? I wouldnt call myself a good writer by any means, but formalities require speaking on paper rather than words. Poor trees.
I had put upon the quest board a desire to scout about this land we're in. One of the things First Landing needs is fresh water. No rivers or lakes as far as the eye can tell, but there is a report of a distant sea. So naturally I took the task of finding this sea, giving a name, and coming back as heroes! At least on paper.
Jirel posted a 'first attempt' that went wrong. Read up on that if you need a warning against the dangers of travelling in a snow storm with Trolls. Stars witness, my friend Pabramstopped running that day.
But results! Yes, we made good ground on a second attempt with Kaedrick and Selenejoining us. Stalwart companions, I'd not want to be on the wrong side of their axe or rapiers. That said, rather moody. Oh, and foul mouthed. And dodgy. And secretive. But stalwart!
We encountered some quick sand.
- ADVICE: Bring a 10ft pole and scout properly. Then a beach with water. Sadly it was salt water, so no luck for First Landing. There were some huge rocks-like reaaaaaly big. We tried climbing them but...
- ADVICE: grow wings. Oh, and some Draugr attacked us.
- ADVICE: Draugr are drowned Undead sailors. Be wary on the coast. One of the Draugr delivered a message from its necromancer or something. It seems a powerful entity lurks in the waters.
- ADVICE: REFRAIN FROM ANY DEEP WATER EXPLORATION UNLESS READY TO SEE HIS 'GREATNESS'.
Jirel noticed a cavern of sorts to the distance. Picturesque like how one village girl might imagine a tropical atoll would look like. The whole land scape seems to rebuff the elements like a turtle shell - for good reason! Magic wards imprisoned a Basilisk! And something fouler... a door with a strange fungal growth on it (don't quote me on that. Hey, Druids don't know everything, okay!). It's enticing enough to make a return trip for sure. Oh, and there was a cute squirrel that hopped by, but he looked a little strange. Poor thing.
Basilisks are slow. Circling tactics are effective. Avoid remaining in close proximity unless you wish to be petrified. - Jirel Flyr |
The group was tired, but an explorer's work isn't done yet! We barely scratched the surface of charting out the eastern areas-and the Millenium Forest awaits. At least, that is what I said to keep spirits up. Several days on the road, its fatiguing.
We found a Den containing two monsters: a pair of fiery Cockatrices! We ambushed them in their sleep, so removing the threat was a non-issue. We snooped by hoping to find the missing scout that one of those other reports - Vhel's? Ylla's? One of the first ones. It might be buried in the quest Board. But yeah, missing scout. No findy. Keep an eye out.
After that we head home So, the too long didn't read?
- The sea is salty. We named it the Sea of Stoneafter the identifiable stone pillars hugging the coast;
- The cove with the Basilisk was cleared, but its magic prison and strange door remain. Perhaps a more senior team can risk openning that;
- A corrupted squirrel showed up in the northern part of the forest. Didn't mind people, but looked sick;
- A monster den with Cockatrices was cleared. Scout still missing;
- The forest still needs mapping;
- A strange entity...unsure if eldritch or necromancer, beckoned to talk and see his greatness. The waters to the east may be perilous.

Traipsed our way to the coast. Jirel nearly drowned in quicksand. Had to wind up saving Cai from it. Fought some Draugr. One got back up and sassed us. Found a Basilisk in a cave. Killed it. Deeper Cave there: seems real dangerous. Explored nearby monster den. Killed Cockatrices inside. Cai promised a taste rating of all the things she ate. More to follow.
Went on a trip. Chomped some stuff, climbed and fell, saw the ocean! The ocean was big and windy and cool. I love water! The Zombos were nasty, but there was this big stone lizard, who actually looked pretty awesome, until it spat acid on me. Then I kept running around for Jirel to shoot it. She did. She is good with a bow, even if she is bad with a whistle. Then we ate some giant chickens! I had a lot of fun, hope we can go out to see and eat more! I will be reviewing tasting stuff on a 0-10 scale from now. 0 is deadly, don't try. 1 is not deadly, but pretty horrible. 10 is amazing. Food will be compared to food, non-food to non-food:
