"Crucible 2. Important Dwarven settlement on the Island of Amalur. Centre of anbaric, clockwork, steam-powered, and runic research and development." - Adjutant |
General Information
Crucible 2 is a Dwarven ruin close to Rydess' Lair, in the western reaches of Desert of Rydess. It lies below the mountain, hollowed out to be a settlement, a factory and research laboratory, and a repository of secrets and knowledge. It was originally a colony of Crucible 1, itself a colony of Gearhome, and it was founded by the ancestors of the Ironflow family of Dwarven nobles.
During The Golem Who Cried, the explorers of the Guild created a makeshift entrance through an outer grate and the ventilation systems. This is the only currently known access point.
Society, Culture & Religion
Some people of Crucible 2 seemed to worship Earth Elementals.
A chapel venerating the Kaseshi: The chapel is rather small, and semicircular. Its main feature is a large statue hewn from a single, towering emerald into a surprisingly rough shape, unlike the otherwise intricate and elaborate work of the Dwarves. It features a body that grows wider towards the floor; clawed arms and feet; and a faceplate with a carved rune on the forehead, beady eyes, long, insectile pincers, and equally long antennae. Around this gemstone sculpture, there are similar ones, though much smaller, and also religious paraphernalia, such as censers, jars, goblets, etc. - Viktor |
The Dwarves of Crucible 2 had nobility, such as Lord Pkharmat Ironflow, which implies the existence of societal hierarchy, and royalty, perhaps even monarchy.
Technology
The people of Crucible 2 were a highly developed nation, perhaps more so than even the most advanced parts of the Old World. They used:
- Constructs (including Golems and Clockworks);
- Alchemy;
- Runic magic;
- Steam engines;
- Electricity (which they called "anbaricity");
- Reduplication.
Their technology was an interesting blend of all these approaches, combining different power sources. Electrical cables weave between steam pipes, gears and pistons, runes are carved into the mechanisms, and alchemical substances are involved.
Their "anbaric" inventions include electrical lights, Adjutants, "ordinators", and more. The process of programming their electrical devices to fulfill different purposes and handle various tasks was called "prographing". Crucible 2 served as the testing grounds for the development of what later became the Arkvial of Gearhome.
Crucible 2 was researching robotics, artifical intelligence, preservation of knowledge and body. The life-support throne of Lamwen Darr was acquired here, either via a purchase, or via ruin pillaging.
Old text that needs revision:
Dwarves filled it with Clockwork defenses, and made deals with other Humanoids to have their information kept safe here. It serves as a factory, and contained a device capable of replicating items stored inside of the steel archives.
Layout (to be updated)
During the quest The Golem Who Cried, the party explored a part of the location. Deus ex Machina explored it further.
1 - Outer grate, connected to a 200-feet deep shaft. Going down it, and navigating ventilation pipes, one can reach this makeshift entrance to the factory.
2 - Maintenance hallways. Contained a hidden shrine that was looted. Otherwise unremarkable.
3 - Room with a ruined table and a portrait of a Unknown - Lord Pkharmat Ironflow.
4 - Dwarven Mansion.
5 - Assembly Hall, for dining and similar events. Two balconies look over it. Connected to a basement where a seemingly-crying, balled-up, un-aggressive Golem was found. Also connected to communal kitchens.
----- ^ almost completely explored ^ ------
6 - Chapel. Untouched.
7 - Large Manufacturing Hall, where Constructs are assembled. Connects to plenty of smaller rooms - storage of timber and coal, workshops, offices. Two towers with many windows are connected via a bridge, and serve for observation.
8 - Power room. Large, inactive reactor, pipes and boilers, and supplementary storage rooms.
----- ^ less explored ^ ------
9 - Crossroads.
10 - Elevator room. Below it is a deep, dark pit; above is the room that housed the hammer-Relic with the ability to duplicate whatever it was struck with.
11 - More manufacturing rooms. Constructs were worked on further here, and also stored.
