Short summary: After the events of Divine Intervention, penitent researcher Jericho and concerned swordmaster Damin requested the aid of lovey-dovey adventuring team Vhel, Tamiko and Daggoth to return to the dwarven factory and settlement first learned of in Rat Archaeology and half-explored in The Golem Who Cried. Their aim was to find the Arkival, said to be a pillar of the ancient and technologically gifted Dwarven society, which they hoped would contain knowledge on the aberrant godlike entities plaguing the history of the world, and perhaps even hints on how to restore the broken seal on the moon entity, Monday. On their way, they met with traveling Watchers Khuk and Vratch, Vhel healing the latter of illness, and hung out with their ship captain Seynomour, recovering from his own as inflicted by First Landing's underworld. After they arrived and dug into the partially ransacked settlement, they first explored the manor of industry-influential Lord Pkharmat Ironflow's family, and then branched out to the wider area, moving on to the rest of the laboratories, and finally residential and business areas.

Along their way, they found and elected to return with many clockwork relics both interesting and poignant, soothed the haunted letter of a dwarf who had hoped to escape devastation, found one of many cores for a city-wide artificial intelligence system named Adjutants, learned from it the prosperous and experimental nature of the settlement (Crucible 2, offshoot of Gearhome), soothed another haunt surrounding a shrine to revered earth elementals known as Kaseshi (and found significant spiritual relic there), fought rogue(?) security constructs with new acquaintances Imbiq and Rensh (exploring members of The Prospectors' Tribe), gleaned from them the startling amount of historical knowledge their people held and offered to help with scavenging and perhaps meet them, doubled back to laboratories housing an ill-fated interactive ooze exhibit known as Once Upon A Slime (and destroyed a malevolent id ooze trapped within), found a passage to a residential district which hid an enormous aquarium housing a huge sapient magical beast known as an Water Orm (which they initially mistook for an elasmosaurus), made friends with them using Comprehend Language and offered to keep an eye out for balms to their loneliness, explored the district and discovered the ghost of dwarven singer Signora Capriccia, offered to help her finish her tour and find peace by consentingly possessing Tamiko's body, and explored other nooks and crannies in search of the Arkival before finally discovering further goods in a market, and being discovered in turn by a skulking half-spider-construct duergar man and his gremlin lackeys piloting an enchanted cart; the man refused diplomacy and abandoned his plans of escape after seeing the Prospector kobolds (ancestral foes) the party had traveled with, and a fierce struggle ensued from which the party emerged victorious but subsequently needed to recall (along with Capriccia) after parting ways with the kobolds, their goal yet out of reach due to the new danger.
