Nymanne

Lady Nymanne is a Crossroads Guardian, a rare type of Fey. She lives in Cynosure, on the Broken Beach of the Millennium Forest.

Bearing the title of Praetor, she serves the Pearlescent Court of Lady Sjel as the commander of the Praetorian Guard, the city's law enforcement and guards. Her counterpart in charge of external affairs and the standing army is the Master of War, Dellingr.

As a Crossroads Guardian, Nymanne possesses an innate ability to know the true name, identity, lineage, and significant history of anyone who converses with her. She cannot control it, as it comes to her as naturally as breathing.

A telepath, she tries to privately and mentally notify the affected people about her ability, though this doesn't always achieve the effect that she desires, which is transparency and honesty. She herself repeatedly showed that she has nothing to hide, and strives to always be an open book for others to read. 

• According to Dellingr, he keeps telling Nymanne not to lead with this, and wait for a more opportune time to reveal her abilities and knowledge. She considers this a form of deception. 
• This caused a scene when she did so to Ariana and Reiko, during their visit to the Tower of Glass on the quest Unknown.
• They came bearing false identities as a precaution against the Fey, and Nymanne was on edge due to a recent chain of unsolved crimes committed by a shapeshifter, or someone who can expertly disguise themselves.
• She promised them not to reveal their true selves to anyone else, but said that she would be forced to use this knowledge against them if they threaten Cynosure or its citizens in any way. The two were quite unsettled by the entire experience. 
• After apologising, as reparations, she allowed Reiko to cast a mind-reading spell on her, and did not guard her thoughts, which matched anything she was saying. She willingly revealed:
  • her name;
  • the fact that she was born of Cynosure itself to protect it, and that she served its people faithfully as the Praetor for one hundred and thirty seven years;
  • that her predecessor and metaphorical parent was one Saint Nivenn, another Crossroads Guardian who returned to nature during a long period of prosperity and peace, which rendered the services of his kind unnecessary.
