Our adventure began at The Blinking Pug. The 5 of us met up with a member of the Guild Scouts named Snowflake. Kal was excited that he finally found a source of information about something the millennium forest. We were told that there have been disappearances near Greenside Farmstead in the woods. The ones who return have no memory of what they saw or what happened. Creepy stuff. Their best guess was that an unknown creature was responsible.
After a brief supply run, our party set off to the woods near Greenside to find our target. Instead, we found a couple sprite who got their tiny cart stuck in some mud. We helped them get back on the trail in exchange for guidance to their village nearby. The village, while very nice, was a bit too small for even the smallest members of our party (me). They showed us a clearing where we set up camp for the night.
The next morning, a Melixie brought us to a set of hooved tracks. This was the best lead we had, so we began to follow it. Tracking in these woods is notoriously difficult, and we became lost a number of times. The entire day was frustratingly fruitless. We set up camp, disappointed.
That night, disaster struck. Kal disappeared on his watch, never to return.
Kal left a trail, and we did our best to track it. We encountered a giant flytrap that almost killed me with its poison and a family of bears. Interesting, yes, but no Kal was found.
Our efforts finally brought us to our target’s den. Animal and humanoid bones lay scattered around. The creature wasn’t immediately present, so we hid and waited for it to return. What came next surprised everyone. Kal’s voice called out to us, but no Kal was found. Instead, we saw a violent creature before us. A battle ensued, and in the end, I made the fatal shot. It’s unclear if the creature impersonated Kal’s voice in an attempt to hunt us, or if it actually was Kal who had been twisted and corrupted. Until I know this answer, the thought of killing my friend weighs heavily on my soul.
I hate this forest.
