The dugong is a medium-sized marine herbivore mammal that inhabits many coasts in the Pacific and Indian oceans. It is of vital economic and cultural importance in many places, including coastal Australia. Its meat and oil are highly prized and it is continuously hunted. However, the natural resources in coastal Oceanyka give this region of the world the single largest concentration of dugong populations in Earth. They are like smaller, friendlier, less aggressive whales economically speaking. The dugong isn't a native species, and is far more globalised than other endemic examples, but is still worthy of mention for its value in Oceanykan ecology and economy.
