The Colt CAR-15 Commando is an American select-fire carbine, a part of the Colt M16 family of rifles. Though there were many prototypes, the only one which was truly mass-produced for American special forces in Vietnam is the Model 629 (XM177E2), which includes a number of improvements from the M16A1 (chromed chamber and bore, improved gas system) as well as a unique sound/flash reducer, an all-new collapsible stock and compatibility with contemporary underbarrel grenade launchers, such as the M203 Grenade Launcher. CAR-15 Commandos are typically issued with 20-round magazines of .223 Remington, but Colt's Manufacturing Company is in the process of developing reliable 30-round magazines.
