The Great Dividing Range is the dominant geographic characteristic of The Oceanykan Federation. It consists of an enormous mountain range that bisects the country from north to south alongside its eastern coast. The highest point in the Great Dividing Range is in Mount Kosciuszko and the Snowy Mountains. Because of the geographical isolation of its myriad, snaking valleys, many a Xenohuman 🖖 has made its home here. Amongst them, the Dow were once the greatest, and achieved such splendour that they were able to carve out cities from within the mountains. Though many of them have been restored by the immigrant Montagnards as city-states of the Confederated Bastions, most of them remain as Ruins of the Great Dividing Range.
Geographically speaking, it was once theorised that the Great Dividing Range was part of the Ring of Fire, a geographic phenomenon in which volcanically active mountain ranges surround the Pacific Ocean. However, contemporary geography has found this to be untrue, as the Ring of Fire's borders are at The Republic of Mardasia, and not in Australia. Additionally, carbon radiography has revealed that the Great Dividing Range is the youngest mountain range in the world, perhaps less than a million years old. It appears something might have occurred at that time that created the Great Dividing Range as we know it today in a violent and chaotic manner. The Tasmanian Highlands are believed to be geographically related to the Great Dividing Range.
