A striking woman with ember-hued hair and bronze-toned skin, Solenya of the Fifth Dawn arrived at Ember Bastion under Pale Lodge directive and took residence in the Magician’s Tower with little fanfare and even less explanation. Her presence was not questioned—those with her seal do not answer to low walls or narrow minds.
She speaks with measured calm, her words heavy with meaning even when sparse. Adventurers mistake her silence for serenity. They are often wrong. She does not ask for reports—she listens to breathing, watches how people respond to truth. Her assessments are rarely spoken aloud but often final.
Her interest in the ruins of Modnar’s Cellar goes far beyond curiosity. She believes the site, long left fallow after the tower's destruction in a blast of color and unsound magic, has begun to stir again. Two Lodge-endorsed adventuring companies entered to investigate. Neither returned.
Solenya now seeks a third—though this time, she chooses carefully.
Her teenaged son, Kerem Derel, serves the Bastion as Marshal of Operations, and she treats him with the same clinical reserve she offers everyone—save for a look, sometimes, that lingers longer than it should. Some say her calm is for his sake. Others say it is the only shield she has left.
Few here speak of her history with Commander Alder Brandt, but even fewer miss the way their silences echo off one another. Her loyalty is not in question—but her heart may still hold ghosts.
Though Ember Bastion offers coin and commendation for the Modnar expedition, those who lie in Solenya’s presence often find the air growing uncomfortably warm, as if something in her magic doesn’t tolerate falsehood. Or perhaps, she simply doesn’t need to cast to know.
